Our office in Stoney Creek, Ontario is looking for an organized, proactive, and effective Site Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator to support its project site in St. Catharines, Ontario for an approximate duration of 12 months.


Summary of the Role:

Reporting to the Area Manager and Corporate Environmental Health and Safety Manager, the Site Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for implementing, monitoring and enforcing the company health and safety policies and programs, while ensuring safe working procedures are adhered to while on company work sites and facilities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and oversee site safety program through continuous on-site monitoring during field execution.
  • Liaise with management and labour to ensure that the highest level of due diligence is maintained.
  • Provide counsel and advisement to the project management team on all health and safety related matters.
  • Coordinate and attend on-site health and safety meetings.
  • Provide on-site health and safety training, indoctrination and orientation to employees.
  • Facilities WHMIS training.
  • Chair or co-chair Health & Safety Committee meetings as required.
  • Thoroughly investigate lost time accidents/incidents and health and safety related complaints.
  • Generate H&S statistics and provide regular reports in a prescribed format, to the Corporate Environmental Health and Safety Manager.
  • Perform daily observations of our project sites and assist site supervision to ensure all work activities are done safely and within Legislative requirements.
  • Perform weekly documented site inspections and monthly safety audits.
  • Maintain daily/weekly/monthly work activity logbooks.
  • Maintain records of all safety and site information used to provide statistics, charts, reports etc.
  • Ensure management remains aware of any potential H&S related Issues that may negatively impact the business.
  • Work with management and employees to develop and implement appropriate return to work and modified work programs.
  • Maintain zero tolerance for on-the-job safety infractions.
  • Ensure responsibilities and accountabilities are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with E.S. Fox Limited Environmental Health and Safety Management Program and OHSA requirements.
  • Ensure that environmental aspects within their sphere of responsibility are adhered to pursuant to ISO 14001 requirements.

Key Requirements, Experience and Skills:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in environmental health and safety management, or occupational health and safety.
  • A minimum of three (3) years' experience working in a health and safety role in a construction environment.
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with the Occupational Health and Safety Act is required.
  • Intermediate skill level working with Microsoft Office programs including PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook is required.
  • Valid and in good standing drivers license with a clear driving record is required.
  • Excellent communication abilities (both written and verbal) are essential.
  • Certified Safety Officer or working towards (NCSO).
  • WSIB Certificate Member (JHSC).
  • Valid and up to date CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Construction Trade Certification is preferred.
  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation is considered an asset.
  • COR auditing experience is considered an asset.
