Description:

This course will be based on a postcolonial approach to urban design centered on connecting spaces and cultures of communities that have been historically marginalized. Through readings, discussions, and design explorations, the course will explore how culture can be better understood and designed with and for users. The course will consider interdisciplinary knowledge from anthropology, sociology, geography, and urban planning through a seminar format.

Class Schedule:

Monday 15:00-18:00

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 - April 30, 2025

Estimated Enrollment: Approx. 20 students per section

Salary: Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90; Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $9,930.79; Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77; Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,326.62; Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76; Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $10,570.02 (inclusive of vacation pay)

Minimum Qualifications: M.Arch, MUD or MSc in Urban Planning degree and professional urban design experience preferred. We are seeking applicants with knowledge of contemporary urban design and public realm practice and policy development - in local, national, and international contexts.

Description of Duties: Preparation and delivery of course material; managing digital teaching materials, preparation and delivery of assignments, tests, final examinations and deferred final examinations; marking of student work, submission of grades, dealing with student enquiries, appeals and petitions and student contact hours.
