Course description:

This course engages students in the fundamental science of epidemiology applied to health and disease. After an introduction to various measures of health and disease, the scientific methods used to investigate, analyze, prevent and control health problems will be illustrated using social, biomedical and public health examples.

Estimated course enrolment: 80 students

Estimated TA support: 160 (to be confirmed)

Class schedule: Lectures on Tuesdays & Thursdays 11:00am - 1:00pm (on-line synchronous)

Sessional dates of appointment: May 1, 2025 - June 30, 2025

Salary (0.5FCE):

Sessional Lecturer 1: $9,457.90.

Sessional Lecturer 1 (Long-Term): $9,930.79.

Sessional Lecturer 2: $10,121.77.

Sessional Lecturer 2 (Long-Term): $10,326.62.

Sessional Lecturer 3: $10,362.76.

Sessional Lecturer 3 (Long-Term): $10,570.02.

All inclusive of vacation pay;

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates should have a completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) with a scholarly background and recent experience in areas related to the course and recent experience in undergraduate teaching.


Description of duties:

  1. Preparing of course syllabus and course marking scheme
  2. Planning and teaching weekly lectures and seminars
  3. Providing office hours for academic counselling of students
  4. Setting and marking assignments/exams
  5. Administrating course in accordance with University regulations as described in the Faculty of Arts & Science Academic Handbook for Instructors
  6. Supervising TAs
