Course Number and Title:
ECO358H1F Financial Economics I (Section LEC0101)

Course Description:
An introduction to economics of financial assets and financial markets. Topics: inter-temporal choice, expected utility theory, security valuation, selected asset pricing models, market efficiency, and the term structure of interest rates - essential materials for an understanding of the role and operation of financial markets.

Estimated course enrolment: 50

Estimated TA support: 70 hours (contingent upon enrolment and funding)

Class Schedule: Monday 10:00-13:00; Wednesday 10:00-13:00

The delivery method for this course is currently in-person. Please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery method may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department.

Sessional dates of appointment: May 1 - June 30, 2025

Salary (per section):
$9,457.90 - Sessional Lecturer I
$9,930.79 - Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term
$10,121.77 - Sessional Lecturer II
$10,326.62 - Sessional Lecturer II - Long Term
$10,362.76 - Sessional Lecturer III
$10,570.02 - Sessional Lecturer III - Long Term

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:

  1. PhD in Economics
  2. Prior experience teaching this course (or a similar course) at the university level
  3. Ability and experience teaching large classes

Preferred qualifications:
  1. Demonstrated excellence in teaching over four or more years

Description of duties:
  1. Preparation and delivery of lectures in this course
  2. Supervision of teaching assistant(s) assigned to course
  3. Preparation, supervision and grading of tests and examinations in accordance with University regulations
  4. Providing scheduled office hours for academic counseling of students
