Description:

Reporting to the Dean of Science, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Science. This course provides an introduction to computer graphics and visualization, covering basic properties of display devices, graphics objects, and common graphics operations. The use of colour, texture, lighting, and perspective will be surveyed, along with development using graphics packages, including GPU programming, and visualization techniques.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

The primary responsibility of the applicant is to develop and teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course on computer graphics at the university level. Utilizing a technology-enhanced learning approach, the Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver, and grade all course material and assignments (with assistance from Teaching Assistants) and be available for consultation with students. The Sessional Lecturer is responsible for compiling and submitting the final grades for individual students in a timely fashion.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent teaching contributions with a proven aptitude for teaching computer science at the undergraduate level.

Required Skills:

  • A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff, and students
  • Demonstrated experience with the following skills:
    • GPU Programming
    • C/C++ Programming
    • Graphics Package Development
    • Advanced Math (Linear Algebra)

Recommended Skills:

  • Excellence in teaching undergraduate students in a Computer Science program
  • Knowledge and experience with the LMS, Canvas, or a similar alternative
  • Experience managing large classes and diverse student populations
  • Experience coordinating and supervising Teaching Assistants as applicable
  • Organizational skills to effectively manage course delivery and respond to student inquiries

Education:

  • Graduate degree (MSc or PhD) in Computer Science or a related field

Experience:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated teaching excellence in a post-secondary environment, particularly in this specific course subject matter.
