SESSIONAL LECTURER for Winter Term 2025 – CUPE 3902 Unit 3

Course#/Course Title: CHL5911H Occupational and Environmental Hygiene II (0.5 FCE)

Course Description:

1. Quantitative evaluation of the workplace environment for the presence of hazardous chemical agents, using active and passive sampling procedures and biological monitoring; analytical chemical techniques; application of modelling for exposure assessment; instrumentation for field measurements of airborne contaminants in the workplace.
2. Lab reports, modelling assignment, written sampling protocols, class group presentations, and a final exam required.

Course Learning Objectives:

1. To have developed skills in the methods used to quantitatively evaluate chemical agents present in the workplace environment.
2. To be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of principles of operation of typical analytical chemical techniques used in occupational hygiene.
3. To develop a working knowledge of exposure modelling techniques and their application.
4. To have developed a working knowledge of the application of direct reading instrumentation to field measurement of airborne contaminants.
5. To know the principles of biological monitoring for exposure assessment.
6. To be able to communicate results of field assessments in a professional manner.
7. Undertake air modelling to estimate occupational exposures.

Salary:

1. Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90 (Half Course)
2. Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term: $9,930.79 (Half Course)
3. Sessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77 (Half Course)
4. Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term: $10,326.62 (Half Course)
5. Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76 (Half Course)
6. Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term: $10,570.02 (Half Course)

(Salary Inclusive of 4% or 6% vacation pay, where applicable)

Qualifications:
PhD or equivalent experience; expertise in Occupational Hygiene.

Description of duties:
Curriculum planning and implementation, weekly teaching, student interaction, evaluation & grading.
