Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to graduate students in BUSI 5190G – Critical Thinking, Integration and Analysis.

The current schedule is:

Classes are in the Ontario Tech Graduate Diploma Program, Accounting. The program is scheduled for May 5, 2025 to August 15, 2025. Classes will be held at various times during that period and are not fixed to a specific day and time. The successful candidate must be flexible and available for the times the class is scheduled.

This assignment will not be filled by one single incumbent and is composed of three distinct topics (please refer to the Required Experience section). The specific number of sections and topics are as follows:

  • Big Cases (six sessions total, three sessions plus three work sessions to oversee)
  • Approaching Professional Accounting Level Cases and Taking Up Cases (six sessions)
  • Day 3 Case Take Ups (three sessions)

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Critical Thinking, Integration and Analysis is a team-taught course. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work with a colleague to present material to top students in a master's level program. Most classes will be application-based, with material delivered using simulations, cases, and other similar types of methods. Lecturing will be limited.

In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Qualifications:

In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the university level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.

The successful candidate must have a CPA designation, be familiar with the CPA Professional Education Program, and have experience teaching with different types of CPA-level cases.

Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently, and will be for the duration of the contract, legally eligible to work in Canada.

Note that this course will be delivered in-person at Ontario Tech University’s North Campus in Oshawa, Ontario.

Required Education:

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree in business
  • A Canadian CPA designation

Required Skills:

  • Extensive experience teaching courses that emphasize case writing and analytical skills
  • Evidence of a strong ethical mindset
  • The ability to teach with cases
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students in meeting the objectives of the GDIP
  • A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment

Required Experience:

  • For the six sessions on Approaching Professional Accounting Level Cases, extensive experience with professional level cases and courses, and developing with students an approach for case writing
  • For Big Cases, experience with Day 1/Capstone 1 Style Cases is required
  • For Day 3 Cases, experience with cases equivalent to the cases used on Day 3 of the CFE

Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
