Description

The School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), Division of Drama invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach the following courses in the spring and summer 2025.

Lectures for the spring 2025 term run from May 5 to June 16, and lectures for the summer 2025 term run from June 30 to August 12; however, some course offerings may run for three weeks rather than six weeks. Individual course dates are noted below; please see the academic schedule for additional important dates and deadlines.

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING COURSE OFFERINGS ARE TENTATIVE, PENDING SUFFICIENT ENROLMENTS. THERE MAY BE ROFR CANDIDATES FOR SOME OF THE COURSES.

Spring 2025
DRAM 382.01: Topics in Drama (Writing for Performance)

Dates: May 5 - June 16, 2025 - Mondays and Wednesdays, 18:00 - 20:50
Description: Introduction for writers at any level to the essentials of writing for the stage, screen, or radio through exploring character, dramatic action, and dialogue. Students will support each other from initial idea to finding the structure that best suits their chosen form. Through facilitation, students will learn how to steer helpful conversations about their work during its process. In turn, students will learn how to give responsive feedback that empowers their fellow writers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Drama or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated professional practice in writing for performance including theatre, film, radio, etc.
  • National recognition through professional publication and professional awards.
  • Expertise in current creative and critical thinking models.
  • Significant teaching experience and demonstrated ability to deliver pedagogically sound curriculum at the post-secondary level
  • Ability to facilitate appropriate student engagement through a variety of learning modalities
  • Experience and knowledge of non-traditional creation practices preferred; experience working with Indigenous, Black, or BIPOC theatre artists and companies considered an asset.

Summer 2025
DRAM 205: Story

Dates: June 30 - August 12, 2025 - Web-based, asynchronous
Description: An exploration of the elements of story present in the arts and beyond. Story is an exciting, creative, dynamic, and universal form of human expression with the potential to engage and inspire students from across departments and disciplines.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Drama and/or Interdisciplinary field of study
  • Proven ability to deliver interdisciplinary curriculum to students from across a range of disciplines and subject areas
  • Evidence of expertise and successful teaching record for large courses and experience grading academic writing
  • Experience designing and delivering web-based courses; proficiency with online instruction tools (e.g., Zoom, Yuja, D2L, etc.)
  • National recognition through professional publication and/or professional awards across multiple print genres; i.e., drama, fiction, poetry, etc.
  • Demonstrated professional practice across multiple media; i.e., print, live performance, film, radio, etc.
  • Expertise in contemporary approaches to creative writing and critical analysis
  • Experience and knowledge of non-traditional practices preferred; experience working with Indigenous, Black, or BIPOC theatre companies considered an asset.
  • Significant teaching experience and demonstrated ability to deliver curriculum at the post-secondary level.
