City Experiences is seeking a Server for our City Cruises operation in Gananoque.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Server is proficient in their knowledge of common food & beverage sales goods. They are technically competent in time management, offering timely service with a hospitable and cordial demeanor towards guests. The crew member manages stress well, in a fast-paced environment, treating guests and co-workers with kindness. The server will be aware of menu offerings, the vessel schedule & embarkment times, dining periods, special events, Ivy Lea offerings, and is knowledgeable about the local attractions. The successful candidate will personally contribute to the unforgettable guest experience by way of exceptional care for food & beverage, being respectful of decisions made by direct supervisors, be favorably viewed by their peers and be swift and efficient in the execution of their assigned duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide amazing hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in our RESPECT Service System.
  • Reports to work on time and for all scheduled shifts, clocking in and out appropriately, in conjunction with managing personal break time appropriately.
  • Understands and follows all policies and procedures relating to the crew’s role within the company.
  • Maintains uniform in conjunction with a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance in compliance with appearance standards.
  • Proficient knowledge of all City Cruises Gananoque & Ivy Lea experiences and menu offerings.
  • Is aware of vessel schedule, embarkment periods, local attractions, upcoming events and entertainment to prepare for peak dining periods.
  • Good understanding of common allergies, preferences, and religious dining restrictions.
  • Takes responsibility for assigned table section by way of daily check-in with on-duty supervisor, table preparedness and general cleanliness of restaurant environment.
  • Acknowledges and greets guests politely, in a timely fashion upon arrival.
  • Accurately takes orders and enters them into the point-of-sale system, following all recipes as set out by the Food & Beverage Manager.
  • Manages timely execution of order taking, beverage service, food service, and payment, ensuring guests are satisfied with their experience.
  • Accurately collects payment from guests for purchases, issues change, and receipts as required. Honoring all policies set out by management team with regards to payment methods, voids, refunds, and discounts.
  • Participates in the celebration and entertainment experience of the guest.
  • Sets up and breaks down dining room and service stations as prescribed by management team; this requires movement of dining and patio furniture.
  • Assists in routine cleaning of dining room/patio, including daily cleaning of equipment, preparation stations, stock rooms, staff areas, staff washrooms, mopping floors, polished cutlery, and all required checklists.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and safety of all common areas and service stations, reporting any concerns to appropriate supervisor.
  • Responsible for knowing, understanding, and practicing all City Cruises Gananoque policies and procedures.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor on duty.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education.
  • Three (3) years experience in high volume restaurant preferred.
  • Smart Serve Certification required.
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate preferred.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and self-directed personality is essential.
  • Will be closely supervised; accepts all training and guidance on a continuous basis. Passes along best practices and techniques to fellow crew members.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of another language in addition to English is an asset.
  • Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers.
  • Must possess a service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others.
  • The nature of the work may be strenuous, and the work environment may be warm. Will work for extended periods of time without sitting.
  • Required to lift furniture and other heavy items such as tables and chairs, up and down stairs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and shifts which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Will be required to be available for work on all weekends during July & August including major holidays.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 35 pounds (16 kilograms).
  • Non-slip footwear is required to ensure safety in the workplace. Crew members must wear appropriate non-slip shoes during shifts.
  • If required, wear additional assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection).
