Reporting directly to the Director, Benefits Consulting, Technical Services, the Senior Underwriting Specialist is a key member who provides analytics excellence to our national group benefits clients.

What You Will Do

  • Regularly review experience reports, analyze the data, and provide detailed narratives based on the analysis.
  • Estimate future renewal rate changes based on historical data at set intervals during the benefit plan year.
  • Manage all tasks related to the renewal process, including analysis, negotiations, detailed report writing, and presentation preparation.
  • Calculate estimated financial positions for refund-accounting clients at various intervals during the financial period and audit annual reports provided by carriers for accuracy.
  • Evaluate the financial details of quotes received from carriers and compare them against current plan costs and details.
  • Analyze costs of different plan design options, funding arrangements, pooling options, and benefit plan redesigns.
  • Support clients by providing taxable benefit costs in relation to annual tax reporting.
  • Participate in projects as required, serving as the subject matter expert for Underwriting.
What You Will Bring

  • Completed post-secondary degree or a combination of equivalent professional experience and training.
  • 3 to 5 years of professional work experience in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial arrangements (Non-refund, Refund, ASO) and analytical skills with a high degree of numerical accuracy. Strong math skills.
  • Strong understanding of group benefits and benefit plans.
  • Excellent time management skills in a fast-paced environment, able to meet deadlines and work on multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail, able to skillfully work independently and within a team, with strong organization and prioritization skills. Able to solve problems and is self-motivated.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Sound judgment, ethics, and integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a strong client service attitude and ability to build relationships and trust.
