This is your opportunity to join our Linguistic Services team as a Senior Translator-Revisor. This position is based in Montreal (Saint-Laurent). You will be expected to display strong management skills and interest, as you will be assisting and reporting to the Linguistic Services Manager.
Your responsibilities as a Translator-Revisor include translation, mainly from English to French, of medical, pharmaceutical, administrative, commercial and advertising texts, many of which are highly specialized, and in some instances short texts from French to English. You will also revise different texts, mainly in French, increasingly over time. You will be responsible for responding to consultation requests from all sectors of the company and for sharing your knowledge with team members.
Key responsibilities:
- Translate into French, making sure to preserve the content, meaning and intent of the source text.
- Help prioritize and manage all translation and revision requests.
- Review, revise and edit translations to ensure that wording and terminology are consistent and that the proper terminology is used.
- Provide expert advice to internal clients and colleagues in order to optimize translated material, and consult with clients and colleagues when translating in specialized fields.
- Collaboratively create and update glossaries, lexicons, style guides, etc.
- Participate in the supervision and management of computer-assisted translation tools and keep abreast of all innovations.
- Act as a liaison with translation service providers and strategic internal clients.
- Suggest and develop initiatives that promote the use of French throughout the company, in connection with Francofête in particular.
- Participate in various tasks related to the company’s francization obligations, including assisting the chairperson of the Francization Committee.
- Collaborate in the drafting and management of various documents related to the management and operation of Linguistic Services (Standard Operating Procedures, coordination management guide, etc.).
- Help represent the interests of AbbVie Canada with the various levels of AbbVie worldwide by ensuring that solutions implemented at Linguistic Services are in line with the requirements of the Canadian business.
- Contribute to the optimization of resource use, including by assisting the manager with the performance management process, professional development and department operating procedures. Anticipate business problems and recommend practical solutions.
- Support change and innovation in collaboration with the various strategic functions of the company.
Qualifications
Education/Experience required:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) in English-French translation or equivalent. Relevant experience combined with good knowledge of health or life sciences (biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry, an asset).
- Experience in English to French translation (minimum of five years).
- Experience in comparative English-French revision (minimum of five years).
- Strong attention to detail and respect for the value and quality of language.
- Ability to think and plan strategically (work plans, activities, timetables, targeting) and execute with excellence.
- Recognized experience in leadership, management and coaching of cross-functional teams or individuals, an asset.
- Ability to build strong partnerships with key stakeholders.
Essential skills and abilities:
- Strong sense of responsibility, high level of adaptability and strong curiosity.
- Ease with technology in general (use of various tools/systems to perform day-to-day tasks).
- Knowledge of LogiTerm and MultiTrans, an asset.
- Good knowledge of computer-assisted translation tools in general.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.).
- Very good understanding of English, excellent knowledge of French, impeccable style.
