Job Description:
Sinai Health is looking for a Senior Technologist (Quality Assurance) to join our team. The successful candidate will develop and maintain a quality management program for the department, coordinate the review and maintenance of the laboratory manual, and provide leadership and guidance for quality assurance and accreditation activities.
About the Department of Microbiology:
A collaborative laboratory operation between Mount Sinai Hospital and the University Health Network (UHN), The Department of Microbiology is recognized locally and nationally as a leader in microbiology. As a team driven by innovation, we are able to offer the full range of high quality microbiology services, from routine cultures and susceptibility testing to molecular diagnostic testing. New assays are continually being developed by our medical and scientific staff in response to clinical and research needs.
We are a prime reference center for both hospital and private sector laboratories. We offer state-of-the-art diagnostic services, methods development, research, and education.
In this role you will:
- Oversee the Quality Management System of the department.
- Design and maintain the departmental quality management system in accordance with all accreditation and licensing requirements.
- Monitor the quality management program to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Educate staff on the quality management system.
- Maintain a document control system.
- Maintain incident reporting system: coordinate the documentation, investigation, review, and follow-up action on all incidents.
- Design of the laboratory QC program: responsible for the design and maintenance of the Total QC module.
- Train staff in the data entry and verification of QC records.
- Monitor completion of all QC records.
- Supervise the QC bench technologist and provide training as required.
- Maintain, educate, and implement current GMP guidelines and USP testing requirements.
- Coordinate Quality Assurance Committee meetings: prepare agenda, schedule meetings, complete minutes, and follow up on action items.
- Lead the Quality Improvement Team to identify quality indicators and perform audits.
- Participate in inter-departmental and external quality management teams. Compile and present quality report at Quality Management Committee and others as required.
- Coordinate the review and maintenance of Laboratory Manual: ensure that all sections of the manual are reviewed at least once a year.
- Keep printed, electronic, and web manual up to date.
- Communicate changes to staff, clients, and users.
- Organize all lab accreditation and assessment programs (OLA, ACDx, HC).
- Ensure compliance with all accreditation requirements in collaboration with management.
- Oversee and coordinate an internal staff proficiency testing program.
- Complete lab licensing applications.
- Collaborate with management team to conduct client satisfaction surveys.
- Rotate through all bench duties.
- Perform other duties as required.
Job Requirements:
Mandatory:
- Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) in microbiology.
- Evidence of progressive professional development (i.e., additional degrees, certifications, credentials).
- Quality Management Certificate or equivalent. Applicants that have not completed the Quality Management Certificate may be considered; however, as a condition of hire, the certification must be successfully completed on your own time at your own expense within the probationary period.
- A minimum of 5 years’ recent experience in a clinical microbiology department.
- Experience with regulatory assessments.
- Experience in operational document writing/document control processes.

- Demonstrated effectiveness in project management and time management.
- Proven computer skills in Microsoft Office software and Soft LIS.
- Proven skills in analyzing data and writing reports.

- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record.
