Senior Insurance Defence Law Clerk for insurance defence law firm client, downtown Toronto.
Job Type: Permanent full time.
Target Compensation: From $80K to $85K per annum, with some flexibility according to experience, plus benefits.
Regular Work Hours: FULL TIME HOURS; from 9 am to 5 pm including 1 hour lunch break, Monday to Friday (35.0 work hours per week).
Work Location: Hybrid - combination of 1 day remote-based and 4 days onsite at our client's downtown Toronto office, near TTC station. Probationary period to be completed 100% onsite. Onsite work expectations subject always to client business requirements, and may change according to client business need.
Responsibilities Summary:
- Prepare Affidavits of Documents.
- Maintain medical and other records in compliance with firm's file management policies and procedures.
- Review file materials and assist in drafting assessments.
- Manage files or parts of files, including requesting, indexing and organizing documentary productions.
- Assist with drafting pleadings, document production, drafting motions, mediation briefs, pre-trial briefs and preparing for hearings and trials.
- Review and summarize transcripts of examinations for discovery for undertakings, refusals and assembly of answers to undertakings.
- Act as liaison between the client and lawyer for day-to-day matters.
- Docket time and billings.
- Additional law clerk responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Education: Post Secondary Diploma in legal administration, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Professional Credentials: ILCO Certification preferred.
Preferred Work Experience: Minimum 7-10+ years of progressive experience as a litigation law clerk.
Preferred Sector Experience: Personal Injury litigation experience, with a focus on Insurance Defense. Will consider plaintiff personal injury experience, with strong docketing.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements:
- Proficiency in Primafact litigation document management software.
- Proficiency with docketing.
- Proficiency in common MS Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Teams.
- General high level of technical proficiency and comfort with databases, online research, and commonly used documents and file management software applications.
- Strong data entry and typing skills.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, including advanced level business writing skills, excellent spelling, grammar, proofreading and syntax, and professional telephone manners.

- Demonstrated sound understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Demonstrated experience supporting a breadth of both Accident Benefits (AB / LAT) and Tort files.

Additional Requirements:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
- Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
- Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities.
- Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
