As our Senior Scientist, Protein Engineering you are the mitochondria to our cell, bringing your powerhouse skillset to ensure life moves forward in our lab and into production. Reporting to the Manager, Protein Engineering the Senior Scientist plays a key role in the discovery research, design, development, and support for proteins/antibodies needed for IVD products, with a focus on scale-up and new processes development for various proteins/antibodies transfer to manufacturing with the support of the Scientific Affairs team and Production teams.
Throughout these projects, you will actively participate autonomously in lab-work, drafting study plans and analyzing and interpreting scientific data. Prioritization management and playing a hands-on role are critical for success in this position.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
- Designs and performs exploratory studies into proposed protein engineering projects.
- Designs and evaluates protein (or antibody) production processes from mammalian and bacterial sources.
- Optimizes process conditions, improves product design and related processes and procedures, and troubleshoots technical issues.
- Maintains complete and comprehensive records of experiments and studies.
- Participates in the development of plans, schedules, and costs of assigned projects/programs.
- Collaborates with Scientific Affairs, Quality and Production departments for scaling up and technology transfer of protein/antibody purification/production.
- Liaises with external contract manufacturers on protein production as needed.
- Progress reporting to Project Manager and accountability for project completion on time and on budget.
- Identifies, purchases, and performs Installation Operational Qualifications of required equipment to support large scale protein expression and production completion on time and on budget.
- Reviews and implements protein MI, SOP, WI and other industry required regulations.
- Prepares internal and external reports and presentations on assigned projects and contributes to technical journals.
- Participates in the preparation of patents and publications.
- Trains and mentors internal Scientific Affairs and Operations staff on protein production requirements.
WHAT YOU BRING
- PhD degree in a life sciences discipline (preferably biochemistry, microbiology, biology or related science) with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience in designing and producing antibodies and antigens for IVD or related field applications.
- Knowledge of and experience with GLP, GMP work and ISO 13485 or other highly regulated industry.
- Strong technical knowledge on protein/antibody development, expression, and purification.
- Experience with IVD would be an asset, but not a requirement.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and written communication skills are required.
- A demonstrated track record of being a dynamic problem solver.
- Must have strong analytical and technical writing skills.
- Must be able to work independently following a brief period of specific technical training.
- Excellent computer skills (MS Office, Project, Excel).
- Results driven, organized and detail-oriented.
- Experience in writing studentship, fellowship and/or research applications is preferred.

The annual base salary for this job ranges from:
$90,000-$100,000
