Role Responsibilities

The Business Services Branch within the Ministry Services Division is currently seeking to hire an agile and dynamic Senior Risk and Strategic Advisor who will utilize expert-level knowledge on risk analysis and mitigation methodologies, as well as provide expert analysis, advice and facilitation services for various strategic projects throughout the department.

Reporting to the Director, Business Planning & Services, the Senior Risk & Strategy Advisor will utilize knowledge of risks within the energy and mineral resource sector, and their comprehensive understanding of interactions and impact of government policy with specific environmental and economic outcomes to analyze risk and provide advice to assist senior leadership in risk-informed decisions on ministry priorities. You will undertake assessment and problem solving to deal with potential impacts of government policy and other interventions before they affect the capacity of ministry and government goals.

This position will closely collaborate with Executive Leadership Team on executive strategic planning sessions, with outcomes which may be broad-reaching in nature, and ultimately have province-wide impacts. The Senior Risk and Strategic Advisor will lead/facilitate discussions on challenging issues and policy questions with stakeholders and partners with varied backgrounds, interests and perspectives.

Further to the deliverable outlined above, the Senior Risk & Strategic Advisor will also be responsible for:

  • Providing expertise on risks within the energy and mineral resource sector, review and conduct risk analysis to assist senior leadership in making risk-informed decisions on all major work and priorities of the ministry.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of an integrated risk process for the ministry that identifies, assesses, assigns and mitigates key strategic risks to the ministry's outcomes.
  • Lead and support large, high profile projects, that are at the forefront of Deputy Minister, Minister, and Executive Council priorities.
  • Lead and facilitate executive strategic planning sessions in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Initiate, lead, and coordinate targeted research to address strategic issues facing the ministry.
  • Maintain and develop new elements of knowledge on current issues and environmental changes that may impact the ministry's projects and initiatives or may require additional tools to achieve defined outcomes.


Qualifications

Minimum university graduation in business, economics, political science, international relations, Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or in a related field supplemented by four (4) years of related experience in project management and research and analysis. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

The following will be considered assets:

  • Masters degree in related field would be considered as an asset.
  • Experience in risk analysis and mitigation methodologies.
  • Experience as facilitator to lead discussions with groups and stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading planning sessions, writing project charters, and establishing outcomes and measurements.
  • Experience in research theories and methods, possess well-developed analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
