Job description

The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada’s largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.

Senior Resource Geologist

Greenstone Mine is seeking a Senior Resource Geologist to join our team. Reporting to the Manager – Exploration and Geology, the Senior Resource Geologist is a key member of the Geology production team primarily focused on developing short-term production models and mineral resource block model estimates.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Applying knowledge of geology, mining, mineralogy, metallurgy, mill recovery, and geo-statistics to develop mineral resource block model estimates and short-term production models using Datamine, Leapfrog, and other modeling and geo-statistical software (as required).
  • Complete regular updates to lithology, grade wireframes and block models
  • Audit and perform quality control checks of drill hole and geological databases
  • Create reliable geologic models relevant to mining and processing needs.
  • Make recommendations for additional RC drilling or geological interpretation to support grade control
  • Provide reconciliations, dilution estimates, grade forecasting and grade blending.
  • Actively participate with Geology, Engineering, Exploration and Operations in short and long-term mine planning.
  • Actively participate in reconciliation of mine versus mill figures and mine versus reserve and resource figures

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • A thorough understanding of geo-statistics, variography, and estimation is required.
  • High level of proficiency in Datamine and Leapfrog software is required. Proficiency with Deswik an asset.
  • Thorough understanding in the efficient use of geological techniques and interpretation of data.
  • Self-motivated and safety conscious.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency in language of operation.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to create a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrate a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills.

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

  • Degree in geology or related.
  • 10-12 years related work experience, preferably with an open pit gold mining environment
  • Master’s Degree in Geology or Earth Sciences an asset
  • Experience in block modeling and resource estimation practices.
  • Exposure to database management, QA/QC and geological modeling.
  • Prior production experience considered an asset.

LOCATION

  • This position will be based at the Greenstone Mine in Geraldton, Ontario.

Greenstone Mine provides company transportation from multiple pick-up point locations.
