Senior Project Geologist

We are in search of a results-driven and strategic-thinking Senior Project Geologist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in the success of our exploration projects and special initiatives, contributing to the development of short to medium-long term exploration objectives and strategies aligned with mining, development, and corporate growth goals.

As a crucial member of the Exploration team, you will be directly accountable for assigned exploration projects and special projects, ensuring the development, recommendation, and implementation of well-planned and cost-effective exploration programs within specified time and budget constraints. You will undertake day-to-day decisions in the field, interpret and report results, and make recommendations for future programs. Compliance with IAMGOLD’s environmental and safety standards on all assigned work is paramount, and you will actively monitor key competitors exploring in the region of work.

The role also involves providing advice and technical support for other projects related to your field of expertise. You will participate in competent Mineral Resource calculations for newly discovered resources, provide project management and logistical support for exploration projects, and contribute to geological reports and documentation for decision-making and regulatory requirements. Additionally, you will maintain the property position through filing required governmental or Joint Venture reports, recommend, coordinate, and participate in applied research programs, and may be required to complete or contribute to a variety of internal reports.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a university degree in Geology and/or an advanced degree, along with being a registered professional Geologist with 6-8 years of mineral exploration work in a variety of geological environments/deposit types and experience/expertise in gold exploration. Previous project management experience involving complex diamond drilling operations is required. Knowledge of economic gold deposits in a variety of settings and health and safety protocols, coupled with good interpersonal skills to develop and nurture relationships, is essential. The ability to work with a sense of urgency and focus, along with advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office + Excel, ARCGIS, Leapfrog), rounds out the qualifications. A valid Canadian driver license is also required.

Notable attributes of the Project Geologist role include:

Travel: This position is field-based, requiring residence at the Cote Gold site on a rotational basis. Extensive travel is expected both to and within the field, encompassing various work sites. Travel on foot, motorized vehicle, aircraft, and boat will be required.

Field Work: Physical demands include lifting and walking lines and trails in rugged and extreme conditions and altitudes, especially during field assignments.

Core Shack: The role involves physical demands related to moving core samples within the core shack.

Adaptability: Flexibility is key, as the role requires you to work seven days a week during field and drilling programs. Irregular hours may be necessary to meet deadlines. The nature of the job involves working in a sensitive social and ecological environment, often away from the home base for extended periods.

Hazards: Working around diamond drill rigs, helicopters, and small fixed-wing aircraft poses hazards such as noise levels and machinery. The role also entails working in remote locations and often severe climatic conditions. Hazards associated with wildlife and the operation of off-road vehicles (4x4s, ATVs, boats) are inherent while working in the field.
