Job description

As a Senior Product Engineer based in Ottawa, you will have responsibility to interface with the Mission Solutions product engineering group in Portland, OR, and with manufacturing and shared service organizations located in Ottawa. This engineer will serve on-site in Ottawa as a conduit to Engineering in Portland during the course of planning, testing, and supporting the Mission Solutions product portfolio. You will interface with Manufacturing Engineering, Production Debug, Component Engineering, TE/OPS, Quality, Mechanical Engineering, & Technical Documentation.

Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of Mission Solutions product architectures and functionality; participate in Mission Solutions product design reviews to gain advanced familiarity.

Support Problem Review Board (PRB) and Manufacturing Review Board (MRB) by providing on-site Mission Solutions product familiarity.

Support Debug & RWS teams on cards that have exceeded standard hours.

Support COTS Investigations on the SP tracker.

Oversee implementation of change requests (ECOs) and waivers/deviations that require follow-up and/or verification.

Track instrumentation and/or re-work related to RMAs or Production requested by Engineering; utilize software debug tools, analyzers, scopes, emulators to provide additional information as needed to Engineering.

Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Test Engineering to drive suggestions for continual improvement back into Sustaining Engineering.

Notify Mission Solutions Engineering of quality, component, or process issues that may arise in C4S but might also be applicable to Mission Solutions and vice-versa.

Provide input to the Engineering PDM during the PDR phase to accurately quantify time & effort required by shared services.

Support execution of on-time new product delivery by providing technical expertise during execution of thermal qualification & PA builds; provide similar support to Sustaining Engineering for component obsolescence re-work and builds.

Provide product-specific ATP/ESS/RTM/backplane configuration expertise to TE/OPS; support Sustaining Engineering during updates to test S/W across product’s lifecycle.

Other duties as assigned.

What you Bring:

Technologist Diploma in electronic subjects or bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering or equivalent experience.

2 – 3 years Industry experience.

Experience in the following is an asset:

  1. Hardware development process and standards.
  2. Product configuration management systems.
  3. Hardware effect tracking tools and test methodologies.
  4. Diagnostic tools including Digital Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, DVMs, etc.
  5. Design capture tools, preferably Mentor Graphics.
  6. SAP tools.
  7. Signal integrity analysis tools and measurement.
  8. PowerPC, VME, PCI, PCIe, Ethernet, USB, SATA, serial rapid I/O, I2C.
  9. Open systems standards such as VME, VPX, PMC, etc.
  10. Industry standards documentation practices.
  11. Proven communication and interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.
  12. Able to read and understand Engineering documentation, for example schematics, DWGs, Spec, etc.
  13. Strong sense of responsibility, commitment to quality, and achieving deadlines.
  14. Ability to handle multiple opportunities and meet strict deadlines.
