Senior Process Engineer

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Process Engineer to join our team for a contract term on a paraffinic froth treatment project within the oil sands sector. This role is pivotal in optimizing and overseeing the various process systems involved in the treatment of paraffinic froth. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in distillation, boiler systems, cooling technologies, and hydraulic management to ensure the project's success.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Optimization:

1. Oversee the operation and optimization of distillation columns to enhance the separation efficiency of the paraffinic froth treatment process.
2. Analyze and troubleshoot process performance to improve yield and quality of the final products.

Auxiliary Boiler Management:

1. Manage and optimize auxiliary boiler systems to ensure reliable steam and heat supply for the project.
2. Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure operational efficiency and minimize downtime.

Cooling Tower Operations:

1. Oversee the performance and maintenance of cooling towers to ensure effective heat dissipation and efficient operation.
2. Implement strategies to manage cooling water quality and prevent scaling and corrosion.

Boiler Feed Water Treatment:

1. Supervise the boiler feed water treatment processes to ensure water quality meets required standards.
2. Implement and monitor treatment protocols to prevent issues such as scaling, corrosion, and fouling.

Atmospheric Storage Tanks:

1. Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of atmospheric storage tanks for the storage of chemicals, raw materials, and products.
2. Develop procedures to manage inventory and ensure safe and efficient storage practices.

Overall Hydraulic System Management:

1. Oversee the hydraulic systems including pumps, pipes, and valves to ensure efficient fluid flow and system integration.
2. Troubleshoot and resolve hydraulic system issues to maintain operational efficiency.

Project Coordination and Reporting:

1. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of process systems.
2. Prepare detailed reports, performance metrics, and process documentation for project stakeholders.
3. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project staff.

Qualifications:

1. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta.
2. Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
3. Minimum of 10 years of experience in process engineering within the oil sands or petrochemical industry, with a focus on paraffinic froth treatment or similar processes.
4. Proven experience with distillation columns, auxiliary boilers, cooling towers, and hydraulic systems.
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of process optimization and troubleshooting.
6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
7. Experience with project management and the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
