The Ministry of Trade and Export Development is seeking a collaborative, results-oriented team-player to join the Policy Unit in the Strategic Policy and Analysis Branch as a Senior Policy Analyst, reporting to the Director of Policy
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in an environment on economic policy issues, with a wide professional network, to advance the economic competitiveness and value-added sectors of the province.
This position requires excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to proactively research and define issues and identify strategic implications as well as appropriate policy options. You are curious, diligent, and have high standards for written and verbal communications.
The Senior Policy Analyst role will be responsible for the following:
- Conducting in-depth research and analysis, and providing policy advice on opportunities, challenges and economic trends affecting Saskatchewan’s competitiveness.
- Leading and participating in cross-ministry and cross-government projects in consultation with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicating complex economic and regulatory concepts in simple language to various audiences and stakeholders.
- Monitoring and analyzing developments and sectoral trends including reviewing provincial, national and international developments that could impact Saskatchewan’s economy.
- Providing leadership, expertise, and advice in the development and implementation of policies, programs, projects, and evaluations.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Highly developed research and analysis capabilities with the ability to ensure due diligence, identify opportunities, and evaluate options for programs and policies that support economic growth.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly and accurately explain complex issues, policies, programs and processes to others, in a manner appropriate for the audience.
- The ability to work proactively and independently in a fast-paced environment on diverse projects and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong relationship-building and influencing skills with the ability to lead and work within a team to meet goals and objectives.
- Experience coordinating complex files and projects that involve working co-operatively with a broad range of people to deliver timely and high-quality advice.
- Experience providing support and advice to senior and executive management to advance the government’s interests
- Knowledge of Saskatchewan’s economy and factors affecting economic growth and development would be considered an asset.
Typically, the knowledge and skills needed for this position are obtained through post-secondary education in business, economics, public administration, economic development, political science, social sciences, or a related area combined with experience in government policy analysis or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
