About the role
The Policy team plays an integral role within Payments Canada, who owns and operates financial market infrastructure that underpins the Canadian financial system and economy. Superior policy development is critical for Payments Canada to support the needs of the Canadian payments ecosystem while meeting public policy objectives. In carrying out its mandate, Payments Canada supports government public policy objectives for the Canadian payments ecosystem of safety and soundness, efficiency, and meeting the needs of users. In this context, the Policy team is pivotal to advancing business priorities and building the influence and reputation of Payments Canada as the credible expert on payments and payment systems in Canada.
The Senior Policy Analyst is responsible for driving sound strategic policy analysis on business priorities, and challenging and politically sensitive issues. This includes identifying issues, evaluating policy options, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and developing recommendations on matters pertaining to the Canadian Payments Act, regulations and by-laws; the development, modernization and revisions to Payments Canada’s policy frameworks and rules; and other policy related matters arising from the operation of Payments Canada’s clearing and settlement systems. The Senior Policy Analyst will also build and manage internal and external relationships at the senior level to support sound policy development and effective decision-making toward the achievement of Payments Canada’s objectives and priorities. The Senior Policy Analyst is also responsible for helping guide and mentor the work of the Policy team’s Analysts to ensure the delivery of high-quality, factually accurate and coherent analysis and reports.
