Senior Policy Advisor/ Conseiller principal en politiques; conseillère principale en politiques
Are you a seasoned policy professional with expertise in the areas of equity and inclusive education? Are you interested in student health, well-being, inclusion and belonging in schools? Then, consider this opportunity within the Inclusive, Education, Priorities and Engagement Branch of the Ministry of Education.
Working across the ministry, you will lead the delivery of transformational initiatives that support and enable student well-being, healthy student behaviours as well as inclusive learning environments for all children and youth. You will provide leadership, advice and expertise in contract management oversight, as well as the development of educational funding policies and options that meet strategic educational priorities and objectives for education finance in the province.
As part of the
Policy, Priorities and Well-Being Unit, you will contribute to the development of policies and programs that promote:
- school climates that are inclusive and accepting learning environments;
- well-being for students;
- positive mental health in schools;
- graduation supports for underserved students.
Note: A hybrid workplace policy is in effect across the Ontario Public Service (OPS), including the Ministry of Education, with a minimum of 3 days working in the office located at 315 Front St, W., Toronto. This interim OPS policy is subject to change at any time.

What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will:- lead the development of strategic policy options and recommendations.
- lead issues management functions and coordinate the development of responses.
- lead research initiatives and the analysis of research data.
- prepare or coordinate the development of a range of materials (e.g. briefing notes, and presentations) in support of decision making processes.
- develop and implement work plans and project schedules to ensure priority issues are addressed.
- develop performance measures to monitor and track the ministry's progress against established outcomes.
- build strategic alliances with staff, senior management and sector stakeholders (e.g. unions, public appointments).
How do I qualify?Leadership and Project Management Skills- You have project management skills and experience leading complex and concurrent policy projects.
- You have experience providing leadership, guidance and coaching to project team members.
Communication, Consultation and Relationship Management Skills- You have oral communication, presentation and consultation skills to discuss policy options, strategies and issues with senior decision makers.
- You have written communication skills to prepare a variety of tools, resources and briefing materials.
- You have experience building partnerships and working collaboratively with internal partners and external stakeholders.
Research and Analytical Skills- You have experience applying various research methodologies and techniques to identify emerging issues, trends and opportunities.
- You have analytical skills to assess and interpret quantitative and qualitative data, evaluate risks and develop evidence-based policy options and recommendations.
- You have analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate the potential impacts of proposed options on a diverse range of stakeholders and ensure proposed policies, options and recommendations are feasible and align with government priorities.
Policy and Program Development Knowledge- You have knowledge of and strong understanding of policy and program development principles and techniques and government decision-making processes.
