Purpose

Oversees Global Banking Markets and Engineering (GBME) platform engineering globally ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Accountabilities

  1. Design and implement the core infrastructure components of the platform that applications run on, considering factors such as scalability, fault tolerance, and security.
  2. Collaborate with business/application development teams to ensure the platform can support the business logic and application workloads effectively.
  3. Automate product development life cycle.
  4. Monitor and troubleshoot platform builds to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  5. Ensure upgrades are handled in a timely manner to reduce EOL currency issues.
  6. Accountable for and critical to building a high-trust culture environment to support psychological safety, defining structure and clarity within teams.
  7. Communicate the meaning and impact of work, promote cross-pollination of knowledge within the organization, and monitor progress and adaptation to necessary changes to achieve the goals.
  8. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  9. Create an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles.
  10. Ensure adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.
  11. Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, using a coaching mindset and behaviors.
  12. Communicate vision/values/business strategy, and manage succession and development planning for the team.

Skills Experience and Education

Computer Science Diploma or Degree; or related work experience.
Requires extensive understanding of project management principles and methodology as well as Scotiabank’s IT Roadmap.
GBME platform engineering (Multiple business lines) – platform build, enhancement, and support.
Key Technologies - private/public cloud, Kubernetes, Rancher, Elasticsearch, Airflow, etc.
Operating costs – Reduce operation cost while maintaining quality delivery.
