Duties
As a key member of the PPS Physical Security Branch, you will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders, agencies, consultants, and security partners to enhance and implement physical security strategies and controls into all major capital projects. In this role, you will serve as the lead subject matter expert within various Security Working Groups, identifying security gaps and recommending appropriate physical security controls—including, but not limited to, CCTV, access control, intrusion detection systems, and perimeter security measures. Additionally, you will develop operational strategies to mitigate risks, ensure compliance with security policies and regulations, and support the continuous improvement of security infrastructure within the parliamentary precinct.
In addition, as the Senior Physical Security Advisor, you will play a critical leadership role in assessing security risks and overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of physical security related programs, policies, and procedures. This development will be instrumental in ensuring the resilience and integrity of security operations, safeguarding parliamentarians, visitors, and critical infrastructure within Parliament Hill and the parliamentary precinct.
Through comprehensive risk assessments, security strategy development, and collaboration with key stakeholders, you will help shape and enhance a robust security posture that aligns with parliamentary security directives, emerging threat landscapes, and best practices in the realm of physical security.
Work environment
The Parliamentary Protective Service (PPS) is a separate and distinct organization and is not subject to the Public Service Employment Act. PPS has its own classification, compensation system and staffing regime. Persons appointed to PPS continue to be part of the federal government and will receive the public service pension plan and public service insurance benefits plan.

Education:
Successful completion of a post-secondary educational program an acceptable combination of education, training and experience relating to physical security systems, equipment, and programs.
Degree equivalency
Experience:
E1 – Recent* and significant** experience acting as the lead subject matter expert leading and delivering large-scale physical security projects.
E2 – Recent* and significant** experience in leading physical security analysis, threats and risk assessment and advising on security risk mitigation strategies.
E3 – Significant** experience providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management through the use of written documents such as briefing notes, PowerPoint presentations, reports, etc.
E4 – Experience in cultivating and maintain high-level relationships with security consultants, internal/external stakeholders, and other Government departments/agencies to ensure seamless collaboration on physical security related topics.

Education:
Post-secondary degree or diploma from a recognized institution in the filed of security, law enforcement, or emergency management, including but not limited to : Protection, Security & Investigation, Security Management, Law Enforcement & Policing, Emergency & Disaster Management.
Degree equivalency
Occupational Certification:
Certified Security Project Manager (CSPM) – Security Industry Association.
Certified Protection Professional (CPP) – ASIS International
Physical Security Professional (PSP) – ASIS International
Other specialized training and/or accreditation relevant to physical security, investigations, business continuity, and emergency response may be considered an asset.
You must be prepared to provide the original or a certified true copy of your educational credentials.
Experience:
AE1 – Experience in applying Project Management principles, processes and tools and/or management of Physical Security project or event planning.
AE2 – Experience managing multiple priorities in a high-security, fast-paced environment while ensuring the successful delivery of security projects and initiatives.
AE3 – Experience in the interpretation and application of directives and policies, procedures, and standards in compliance with a Physical Security framework.
AE4 – Recent* and significant** experience working within a federal institution*** in the field of physical security.
