Your Opportunity

As part of Stantec’s corporate Industrial Hygiene and Health, Safety, Security and Environment (IH/HSSE) Consulting Services Team, the successful candidate will be working with a robust team of over 50 professionals with various technical specialties who work closely with various operations groups across the company, but mostly partnering with the Environmental Services Team on a regular basis.

Stantec’s Western region has an exciting career opportunity for an experienced Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH).

Your Key Responsibilities

1. Advising on occupational hygiene, indoor air quality issues, noise concerns, and other potential exposure issues including assessment, sampling and monitoring when required, analysis of sampling/laboratory results, reporting and follow-up.
2. Managing industrial hygiene and other hazardous materials projects from the proposal stage, including process/facility/client research, client meetings, preparation of budget, scope and specifications to the project execution and completion stage, including staff and resource allocation, development of work plans and health and safety plans, coordination with client and field technicians, coordination of sample submission, equipment allocation, reporting, report review and client follow-up.
3. Conducting occupational health and safety compliance audits and gap analyses for various clients.
4. Providing occupational health and safety management system consulting services including the preparation of documentation for various program elements including programs, safe work practices and procedures.
5. Completing technical review of proposals and reports prior to submission for senior management review prior to submitting to the client.
6. Completing field work as required, including IH assessments, indoor air quality assessments, monitoring and inspection services for mould remediations and asbestos abatements.
7. Providing training on various occupational health and safety topics including, but not limited to Asbestos Awareness, Noise and Hearing Conservation, Construction Safety, OH&S Responsibilities, and Respiratory Protection and Fit Testing, to various clients and Stantec employees.
8. Contacting existing and new clients to ensure their needs are met and to develop new business opportunities.
9. Keeping abreast of current industry knowledge, guidelines, and applicable legislation, interpret Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) legislation and effectively communicate requirements and responsibilities to management.
10. Accurately interpreting, applying and explaining applicable codes, legal regulations, policies and procedures, making decisions within established guidelines.
11. Leading pursuits for industrial hygiene and occupational health and safety opportunities.
12. Monitoring, mentoring, and leading the growth of team members.
13. Providing field coordination and technical oversight of projects.
14. Supporting indoor air quality assessment and hazardous building materials assessment and abatement projects.
15. Working with and supporting the International Stantec IH/HSSE Team.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

1. CIH or ROH certification, with registration or working towards certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional a plus.
2. Certification/Qualification in the field of auditing an asset.
3. Certification/Qualification in the field of Environmental Management Systems an asset.

9. Must be able to work as a member of a team but also independently.
10. Must be willing to travel independently, often times overnight and for a number of days.
11. Effectively communicate verbally and written with existing company clients and internal Stantec staff.
12. Strong writing skills are a must to prepare reports, proposal and other project deliverables.
13. A strong desire to grow in your career with Stantec.
14. Valid Drivers License and satisfactory driving record.

Education and Experience

1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in natural or environmental science from a recognized post-secondary institution. Masters is an asset.
2. Minimum of 10 years’ experience with progressively increasing responsibilities, preferably in a consulting environment and specifically in industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety and indoor environment.

Salary Range(s):

• Lower Mainland $95,800 / BC Other Areas $90,400 - Lower Mainland $143,700 /BC Other Areas $135,600 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
