Job Summary
The resource will be responsible for Planning, Implementing, and supporting the F5 Web Access Firewall (WAF). The F5 (WAF) plays a critical role in Zero Trust security architecture by helping to secure web applications and protect against various web-based threats. The F5 WAF ensures that only authorized, authenticated, and validated users and devices are allowed to access specific applications, regardless of their location within or outside the network.
Responsibilities
- Planning, Implementing, and daily operations of the F5 Web Access Firewall (WAF). The candidate will be responsible for implementing, modernizing, managing and supporting our network infrastructure, along with proactive monitoring, analysis and reporting.
- Achieve a high availability IT network infrastructure and IT network services, in accordance with the client Technology Services, Service Level Agreements.
- Hands-on implementation, upgrading, trouble-shooting of network software and hardware infrastructure.
- Manage and prioritize workload. Check and balance the workload against the team requirements, to result in a service delivery model characterized by cross-training, workload sharing and collaborative team effort.
- Effective teamwork and proficient communication with team members and supported ministries.
- Lead and/or participate in networking projects, and plan, design, implement, support and document best practices.
- Participate and contribute to cross-function IT projects by providing technical IT networking know-how and expertise.
- Perform problem diagnosis, troubleshooting and resolution.
- Plan for software and hardware upgrades and/or migrations.
- Develop and maintain documentation.
- Develop network related procedures.
- Provide cross training and knowledge transfer to team members.
Requirements
Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field of study.
- Active F5 Certified BIG-IP Administrator (F5-CA)/ F5 Certified Technical Specialist (F5-CTS) (copy of certification must be included in submission).
- Direct involvement in developing best-practices documentation (for example, operational procedures, network diagrams, etc.).
- Experience in IT infrastructure architecture and the relationships among the components that make up an IT service from end-user devices to servers, networks, storage, applications and data.
- Experience in migrating, upgrading and optimizing F5 BIG-IP systems.
- Experience with Cisco layer 1-3 technologies, including the planning, design, and implementation of an intermediate to large scale network infrastructure.
- Experience with traffic management, troubleshooting application delivery issues, and optimizing load balancing for high availability and performance.
- Good understanding of network concepts, routing and switching and firewall security policy management.
- Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience of F5 Big-IP LTM, BIG IP DNS, iRule development.
- Good knowledge of TCP/IP, IP routing, LAN and WAN protocols, HTTP/S understanding as it pertains to packet inspection and TCP flow in the Network and Application flows.
- Good L2-L3 troubleshooting skills including ability to analyze TCP dumps and good understanding of basic networking concepts.
Nice To Have
- Experience preparing and presenting comprehensive information to technical teams, management and proponents, including but not limited to contributing to assessment notes, geospatial maps, Logical Network Design diagrams, presentations, etc.
- Experience providing customer service technical troubleshooting and problem resolution.
- Experience using advanced oral and verbal communication skills with staff at all levels of an organization to address the value of service design.
- Experience with Alberta SuperNet or similar network.
- Experience with IPV6, including the planning, design, and implementation in an intermediate to large scale networks infrastructure.
- Experience with networking aspects of Microsoft Windows desktop, servers, and nix-based servers.
- Experience working in or for the public sector.
