Job Description

Assist in developing and implementing strategies and initiatives that support the organization’s long-term objectives and Kinross Way Forward culture. Proactively ensure Metallurgy and Mineral Processing initiatives fully consider health, safety and the impact on the environment and surrounding communities. Foster a work environment where safety is a top priority. Assist in the development of policies and procedures relating to safety and the environment. Ensure that mine site technical staff and respective work areas are in compliance with Health and Safety policies and regulations. Ensure that mine site Processing staff have the necessary training, skills, knowledge, and tools to maintain Kinross' high EHS performance and standards. Assist in accident and incident investigations and support the implementation of new policies and procedures by agreed upon dates. Wear required safety equipment while at mine sites.

Work is advanced in its complexity and involves new methodologies, approaches, or products requiring the interpretation of information to make recommendations. Problem resolution involves a high degree of independent judgement to interpret policy in situations where considerable variation in interpretation is possible. Applies theoretical concepts or original approaches to complete projects or assignments. Work is assessed based on attainment of objectives and effectiveness of results. Ensures quality standards are upheld in their field of specialization. Support the work of project teams and/or task forces.

Job Responsibilities

  • Use advanced-level knowledge to support mineral processing projects and operational support.
  • Coordinate and support programs conducted in laboratories and testing facilities for projects.
  • Act as an ambassador for continuous improvement within metallurgy; research new methodologies and tools to improve current practices.
  • Interact with Operations Strategy and Technical Services personnel to define characteristics of ore resources/reserves and corporate initiatives for operations excellence.
  • Participate in technical projects.
  • Interact with and/or supervise consultants and engineering groups engaged in development of specific Kinross processing projects at new or existing sites.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and consider the business impact of decisions on diverse groups.
  • Provide input to establishing best practice among the group of operations in mill metallurgical accounting practices and review of daily, monthly and annual metallurgical reports.
  • Provide technical input to site-based studies and operational improvements under mandate from site team.
  • Monitor and evaluate metallurgical performance of the selected operations and if required develop test programs for improving mill recovery, throughput and costs.
  • Contribute in preparation of business cases and reports regarding projects and initiatives status updates to key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with peers to identify and analyze risks and opportunities related to the function.
  • Participate in technical due diligence reviews.
  • Field queries and issues related to technical area of expertise.
  • Participate in technical audits to support operations.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering.
  • Formal professional designation in appropriate area of expertise is an asset.
  • 5-8 years of related work experience in mineral processing facilities or engineering group.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in interfacing with consultants and engineering contractors.
  • Experience in contributing to feasibility studies, engineering designs and business plans.
  • Ability to learn quickly.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of mine site operations.
  • Familiarity with accepted concepts, practices and procedures for predictive and preventative maintenance of mine processing systems and equipment.
  • Second language skills.
