Job Description

The Position

Gilead Sciences in Mississauga, Ontario is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated professional capable of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment. The successful candidate will assume a full-time employment role in the capacity of Senior Medical Manager, HIV Treatment and Prevention, reporting to the Director of Medical Affairs, HIV/Prevention. This role will focus on meeting the scientific needs of people with HIV, people at risk of acquiring HIV, allied healthcare professionals, patient advocates, and AIDS service organizations. The position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, execution, and coordination of the Medical Affairs HIV Community plan of action (POA) for Treatment and Prevention.
  • Collaborate closely with the Medical Affairs HIV Treatment and Prevention leads, and Field Medical Lead/Medical Scientists team, to develop a coordinated approach to our Community scientific engagement efforts.
  • Focus on compliantly enhancing pan-Canadian HIV Treatment and Prevention care through non-promotional activities and education, developing appropriate educational programs intended for HIV community audiences.
  • Lead the development of local resources and tools on appropriate HIV treatment and prevention topics intended for a Community audience.
  • Develop and implement defined goals and objectives aligned with the Medical Affairs Plan of Action and other strategic initiatives.
  • Provide medical leadership to plan and execute Medical Affairs Advisory Programs with HIV Community representatives.
  • Strategic support of community-based research initiatives across Canada in HIV treatment and prevention.
  • Establish strong working links with all relevant Gilead departments (Public Affairs, Marketing, Market Access, Government Affairs, Regulatory Affairs).
  • Communicate Gilead’s commitment to scientific excellence in HIV treatment and prevention through research and balanced education.
  • Responsible for adverse event reporting and management of drug safety and pharmacovigilance activities in compliance with local and global regulatory requirements and policies.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills

  • M.Sc., PhD, or Pharm.D (preferred).
  • Experience with HIV Community work or education mandatory.
  • Strong medical/clinical/scientific background in HIV is preferred.
  • 2+ years Pharma industry experience in Medical Affairs (preferred).
  • Strong Project Management skills required.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal relationship-building and negotiating communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, demonstrated ability to identify and understand complex issues and problems.
  • Must be able to utilize complex scientific resources for the development of educational programs and presentations in a variety of different settings.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Organized; attention to detail and able to meet timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritize workload.
  • Must be able to work with a high level of autonomy and independence.
  • Must be fully cognizant and adhere to all regulatory and legal (Business Conduct) requirements for clinical trials and other Medical Affairs activities.
  • Bilingual candidates an asset.
  • Position requires approximately 15% travel.
