The Senior Manager, Operations Management leads a department. Communicates within and outside of the organization to influence leadership to accept new practices, approaches, and concepts. Develops or champions new concepts or technologies. Manages the implementation of functional strategies and recommends operational plans that directly impact the function or business area results. Requires broad management and cross-functional leadership knowledge and mastery level knowledge within a specific technical area or broad expertise across multiple related job areas.
The Senior Manager, Operations Management for the Maritime International Division will serve as the Operations Lead responsible for all strategic and daily execution of the operations function for Canada locations and UK locations. Team includes approximately 40 operations professionals executing Shop Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Planning, Quality Assurance, Continuous Improvement, EH&S, and Facilities for all programs/contracts. The products within the business include assembly of electronic cabinets. This individual will report directly to the Maritime Senior Director of Operations and have dotted-line reporting to the Maritime International VP/GM and Site General Manager.
What you will do:
- Lead multi-disciplinary operation in manufacturing, quality, continuous improvement and EH&S;
- Develop and implement strategies to meet cost, quality, delivery, customer satisfaction, EHS, and continuous improvement commitments;
- Develop a world-class operations team through staffing, training, and talent management initiatives while serving as a role model for integrity, inclusion, and diversity;
- Drive employee engagement through:
- Leader of standard work;
- Factory Gemba walk process;
- Quality improvements and zero defect strategies;
- Comprehensive, proactive safety initiatives;
- Lean deployment;
- Mistake Proofing / Poke Yoke;

- Total Productive Maintenance (TPM);
- Value Stream Mapping (VSM);
- Maintain responsibility for succession planning, organizational and talent development;
- Facilitate Operations, Manufacturing and Quality participation in design development to identify and address manufacturability, testability and inspectability issues;
- Collaborate with Program Management, Supply Chain, and other functional organizations across the Maritime International Division;
- Responsible for monitoring, assessing, establishing plans to achieve, and presenting status of functional Strategic Goals and operational Metrics as approved by leadership;
- Lead the organization in the development and implementation of operating philosophies and business strategies;
- Develop, implement and sustain success metrics, incorporating best practices, and effectively communicating improvements;
- Effectively manage behavior, performance, and key deliverables across a matrix organization.
Required Skills and Experiences:
- Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or similar field
- 12 years' experience in manufacturing environment
- 10 years' experience in an Operations function leadership role with in-depth knowledge and understanding of manufacturing methods, lean methodology, production planning, quality management systems
- Fundamental knowledge in EHS to drive zero injury plans with a proactive approach
- Extensive experience in Shop Floor Management of electronics, fabrication, or related commodities/processes
- Working knowledge and experience in Earned Value Management and/or comprehensive estimate-at-complete (EAC) establishment and analysis
- Working knowledge and experience in manufacturing labor standards (hours-per-unit) establishment and analysis
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Advanced degree in management;
- Experience in the following fields of Operational Excellence:
- Understanding of lean principals around pull systems, mix/max controls, etc.;
- One Piece Flow or Pull System manufacturing flow;
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA);
- 5S+1 Visual Factory;
- Sales Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP);
- Gemba implementation;
- Demonstrated MRP/MES System adherence;
- Knowledge of ISO9001:2015; AS9100D and QMS adherence;
- Knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning and other proactive quality tools;
- Experience deploying proactive safety initiatives to drive zero injuries
- Aerospace & Defense electronics experience, mixed model factory experience a plus;
- Experience working in a matrixed organization;
- Exceptional problem solving skills;
- Strong experience implementing a metric driven approach across all Operations functions;
- Proven ability to identify performance issues and implement the necessary changes in a timely and effective manner;
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment;

Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada Reliability status and Secret Level 2/NATO Secret security clearance.
