JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Market Affairs located in Toronto, ON.

Reporting to the Director of Market Strategy, this position is responsible for market analysis to support strategic decision-making and optimize performance in the Independent Electricity System Operators (IESO) administered markets and the northeast power markets. With strong analytical skills, exceptional communication, and a collaborative approach, you will support the business by working closely with colleagues in Energy Markets, Regulatory Affairs, Business Development and Operations.

Key accountabilities include managing a team of skilled professionals, relationships with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) and industry, strategy and long-term planning.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Market Monitoring:

  • Monitor, analyze and identify market opportunities and risks through insights, research, and analysis of ongoing and future electricity market developments.
  • Develop OPG's position on market evolution through collaborative internal discussions.
  • Advocate externally through participation in all relevant IESO stakeholder forums by voicing persuasive arguments both orally and through written submissions.
  • Provide market rule related advice to senior leadership on advisory committees of the IESO, OEB and Ministry of Energy.
  • Develop and maintain after-the-fact analyses on OPG's activity in the IESO markets and seek out opportunities to enhance OPG profits.

Regulatory and Business Planning Support:

  • Coordinate and provide support from various internal stakeholders for OPG's OEB rate hearings. Involves development of evidence strategy, technical studies, evidence prep, witness prep, handle interrogatories and undertakings.
  • Coordinate preparation of the Business Plan for Energy Markets as per guidelines from Finance. Provide input on key future initiatives for presentation to CEO/CFO.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed Undergraduate Degree in business, economics, finance, or engineering.
  • Professional Designation such as CPA, CFA, ERP, P. Eng., etc.; is also desirable.
  • 7-10 years of experience in North American energy markets including the IESO market.
  • Deep understanding and experience with the IESO administered markets and the northeast power markets.
  • Familiarity with the IESO’s Market Renewal Program.
  • Strong people leadership and communication skills are essential. Must be able to lead a team effectively, provide guidance and foster collaboration among various stakeholders.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and experience building relationships with regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams including Energy Markets, Business Development, Strategy and Regulatory Affairs.
