Position Overview:

The Data Governance Senior Manager will lead a team of data governance analysts and resources to develop enterprise data governance policies and frameworks. They are responsible for the formation and execution of the data governance framework, policy, standards, and tools, providing education on data governance standards and practices, championing the communication of the value of data governance to stakeholders, while increasing the data literacy across the organization at TELUS International.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain data governance policies, procedures, and standards in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data governance roles and responsibilities, and promote a culture of data stewardship and accountability.
  • Conduct data governance assessments and audits to identify areas for improvement and mitigate risks related to data management.
  • Shape and guide our metadata and master data management tools to properly align governance frameworks and standards with the execution of practical data management.
  • Help establish and enforce data security and privacy, in conjunction with the data privacy and security teams, through enabling the appropriate levels of data privacy and data security governance within the broader enterprise data governance framework.
  • Provide guidance and support to business units on data governance matters.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on data governance principles and practices, and deliver training sessions to educate stakeholders on data governance concepts and requirements.
  • Manage and deliver Data quality, governance and literacy programs and projects.
  • Provide data governance education and training on core data concepts, practices, standards, and guidelines.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and developments in data governance, data privacy, and regulatory compliance, and ensure that our data governance practices remain current and effective.
  • Facilitate a consistent and transparent data decision-making process that brings together business and IT data stakeholders.
  • Propose and gain approval of metrics to monitor data quality against data standards.
  • Provide requirements and process consultation to business area management and staff for all aspects of Data Governance.
  • Properly assess and prioritize business and enterprise demands and accurately translate business requirements and functionality into appropriate data governance standards and practices.
  • Accurately measure the contribution of Data Governance activities to business value.
  • Manage ambiguity and create accurate estimates related to Data Governance deliverables.
  • Respond to unfamiliar, undefined, unexpected, or unstable situations in a professional way.
  • Assist with writing documentation and user training materials.
  • Effectively build and sustain relationships with business partners, professional peers, and other TELUS Digital team members.

Required Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 5 years of experience in related field.
  • Specialized training in Data Management and Data Governance preferred.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and practices.
  • Strong change management orientation, skills, and experience.
  • Expertise in process design, reengineering, and requirements management and documentation methodologies.
  • Highly skilled at facilitation and building consensus among diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Must be a self-starter.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to translate complex topics to any audience.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
