Job Description:
Our team is expanding, and our National Claims team is actively seeking to hire a Senior Litigation Specialist, Casualty Claims Bodily Injury for our National BI team. Reporting to the Manager Casualty Claims Litigation in this role, you will be responsible for the full handling of large loss complex litigation claims with an emphasis on timely and fair resolution.
Accountabilities:
Investigates and settles large loss complex litigation files.
Directs and guides activities of defence counsel, to bring cases to optimum & timely resolution.
Interprets complex insurance wordings/case law, determines policy coverages, and establishes reserves.
Reviews and assess reports from defence counsel, approves settlements and process payments within established authorization limits or approval of management.
Attends private mediations, settlement meetings, hearings, etc. as required.
Provides input into the development of tactics relating to regional cost containment strategies.
Identifies & understands emerging trends and problems with consideration given to multiple variables, i.e., legislations, interpretations, impacts severity initiatives to improve results.
Mentors and coaches junior claim staff as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of strong insurance background in a BI claim environment.
Advanced knowledge of claim handling of Bodily Injury claims.
Advanced file settlement/resolution skills.
Enrolled in, or completion of, CIP designation.
Excellent communication skills.
University degree/college diploma or equivalent work experience.
Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
