One of our prototypes is exploring a mashup of genres with combat that is based in first person perspective. As a Senior Level Designer, you'd be working closely with our design, product, and art team to create maps that are combat sandboxes for players, allowing for endless and varied encounters, both PvE and PvP.
The Senior Level Designer will not just be designing map layouts and architecture; you'll be in-engine building them yourself and iterating daily based on feedback from our daily team playtests as well as player playtests. This means that the Senior Level Designer is used to being hands-on and not just writing specs and handing them off to others.
The Senior Level Designer will be the first level design hire at the studio, so you can expect a lot of autonomy and trust in your expertise, with the potential to expand beyond just level design if desired. We're a small studio, so if you wanted to contribute in other areas such as encounter design or otherwise, you'll be encouraged to grow that skillset as opposed to being forced to stay within a narrow lane.
This is unfortunately not an entry-level Senior Level Designer position. One day we hope to be able to give more opportunities to enter the industry, but as the first level design hire, we need someone with experience.
Odyssey is a Canadian Game studio founded around the idea of making games that ignite the competitive spirit that lives within everyone, by blending concepts of games that people wouldn't necessarily think belong together. We take pride in creating novel experiences that don't have a true comparison and look for people who share that hunger and passion for doing something truly different to try to change the industry.
We’re creating our own IP, building games in genres that don’t even really exist yet, and figuring out what it means to build games for the generation of gamers coming after us, hopefully impacting them the way that games did when we were them. We don’t really know what those games will look like, but that’s why the challenge is so exciting. It's hard, and we put a lot of ourselves into our work, and if that sounds like something that appeals to you - we'd love to hear from you!
