Job description

My client is a top notch Civil Engineering Consulting firm who is actively seeking a Senior Land Surveyor who knows the LA market. As a Senior Surveyor you will be responsible for providing management, leadership, guidance, and performance tracking of multiple survey crews and survey technicians for successful project completion. The Senior Surveyor utilizes appropriate staff members to ensure projects are successfully completed on schedule and within budget.

Some key duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Serve as the technical specialist in the application of advanced concepts, principles, and methods;
  2. Research sufficient property information to prepare detailed scopes, budgets, and schedules for surveying projects;
  3. Assign research and other survey tasks to other surveyors or assistants;
  4. Review research;
  5. Mentor Survey Technicians and other Surveyors;
  6. Implement effective practices, methods, techniques, and equipment for the practice of land surveying;
  7. Verify and utilize current applicable regulations when overseeing project work.

Key skills and abilities needed for the position are:

  1. Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and construction documents with excellent communication skills;
  2. Demonstrated aptitude to understand Caltrans format calculations, alignments, and instructions for field work;
  3. Knowledge of CAD software functionality to prepare survey plats and exhibits;
  4. Must maintain thorough understanding of survey equipment, survey practices, and survey software programs including GPS surveying practices;
  5. Effectively communicate with clients, officials, contractors, and others;
  6. Travel may be required.

Education and experience requirements are:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required;
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying or minor in Land Surveying preferred;
  3. Professional Land Surveyor license;
  4. 14 years of experience with a degree or 20 years of equivalent experience.
