Your Opportunity

You will help lead and mentor colleagues within the interior design team and work collaboratively with architectural teams, conceptualizing, developing, and documenting varying aspects of interior design of a project, including but not limited to space planning, interior architecture, interior materials and finishes, specifications, FFE and signage.

Your Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage projects and schedules for smaller projects on which interior design is the prime consultant, overseeing administrative aspects including client and consultant contract negotiations, project set-up, invoicing, project planning, project staff scheduling.
  2. Participate in development of the program and other pre-design efforts when required.
  3. Engage in workshop discussions and activities with clients to ascertain cultural and desired project outcomes.
  4. Lead teams in developing space planning, block planning, and adjacency diagrams in coordination with building program.
  5. Develop the interior design, material palette, and FFE through sketches, digital/BIM models, diagrams, and other visual formats to express design intent and coordinate with Design Architect.
  6. Utilize BIM technologies to develop three-dimensional models of interiors and their components.
  7. Participate in design critiques and pin-ups.
  8. Coordinate with outside consultants to ensure drawing sets are aligned.
  9. Ensure design compliance with building codes, sustainability requirements such as LEED, AODA requirements, and accessibility guidelines.
  10. Evaluate and select interior systems, materials, finishes, and fixtures.
  11. Coordinate building systems to ensure compatibility with design intent and sustainable design principles.
  12. Develop interior design within cost parameters and maintain design intent through documentation and construction.
  13. Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
  14. Complete FFE scope tasks from design and selection through bid, coordinating with specific client and project needs.
  15. Adhere to Stantec’s required QA/QC process, including design reviews.
  16. Participate in business development activities and project interviews as required.
  17. Lead project proposals and RFP responses, supporting larger proposals as needed.
  18. Mentor and collaborate with colleagues.
  19. Demonstrate a commitment to the profession and the firm.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  1. Thorough knowledge and application of accessibility codes and applicable building codes.
  2. Understanding of all phases of architectural document production through construction administration and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  3. Ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
  4. Ability to create project plans and schedules.
  5. Accountability to project profitability.
  6. Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  7. Management of team deliverables with client expectations.
  8. Ability to conduct space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in coordination with building program.
  9. Ability to develop floor plans, elevations, and details.
  10. Ability to check team work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  11. Ability to collaborate in a project team setting through all phases of document production.
  12. Ability to engage in creative and critical thought.
  13. Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program, and other similar materials.
  14. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; experience with Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUP, Newforma, Bluebeam.
  15. Strong client management skills and internal team managerial skills.
  16. Excellent presentation abilities, including presenting abstract ideas to clients.
  17. Strong communication skills.

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Interior Design; Member of ARIDO/IDC; NCIDQ Registered.
  2. Minimum of 10 years’ experience in interior design; Healthcare experience preferred.
  3. Project Management certification preferred.
