Job description

As a Senior Instructional Designer, you will support the creation of a wide variety of customer-facing training materials including reference materials, eLearning, online help, and other customer-facing support and/or learning content to accurately describe the functionality of NAVBLUE products.

You will upload new training & development content, and use software features to create more meaningful and engaging customer learning experiences. You will be responsible for supporting the design, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of content, assets, and other resources within both the Litmos and Moodle LMS environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a high degree of autonomy with little (or no) coaching on how to achieve a particular outcome being required. Your efficiency and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously means you produce the desired outcomes relatively quickly.
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and business owners across the organization to research, plan, produce, and maintain high-quality training (eLearning and documentation) materials for both customer-facing and internal use.
  • Define end-user training needs through structured sessions with Product Management, Customer Support, Sales & other teams directly involved in the production, delivery, or support of our products.
  • Train and support SMEs across the business on the use of our content creation tools, working closely with them to ensure they understand the training development strategy and lifecycle.
  • Build content development project plans with SMEs that follow the ‘Micro Learning’ based methodology, coaching, and mentoring staff at all levels in the organization to ensure the scope, plan, and responsibilities are clearly understood.

  • Develop the content defined in partnership with the SMEs, editing and curating content, as well as building new materials directly as required.
  • Achieve the desired end goal through the application of a strong project management framework, specifically:
    • ADDIE (Instructional Design methodology) – Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate.
    • SAM (Successive Approximation Model) - Preparation, Iterative Design, Iterative Development.
    • Agile – Iterative and incremental development methodology.
  • Manage all required stakeholders with the ability to determine RASCI matrix levels (Responsible, Accountable, Support, Consulted, Informed) for individual stakeholders, clearly articulating deadlines, or customer dependencies to ensure the availability of required resources.
  • Work within ad-hoc team structures created for the needs of any specific project and always remain a team player.
  • Work closely with Customer Support to identify customer pain points and rapidly improve existing or develop new materials to address the issues.
  • Proactively identify methodology and process improvements, and champion the adoption of new technologies within the team and across NAVBLUE.
  • Adhere to the NAVBLUE Academy brand and style guidelines, identifying required changes whilst also recognizing the freedom that an Instructional Designer has in how they develop content.
  • Support the development of customer training courses be they either synchronous or asynchronous and various delivery methods (f2f, eLearning, remote, etc.)
  • Communicate project/work status orally, written, or other as required regularly and without needing to be prompted.
  • Administration of NAVBLUE’s Learning Management Systems, NAVBLUE Academy (Moodle and Litmos), and responding to customer tickets via Freshdesk. Examples of these are:
    • Manage learning records and access requests.
    • Upload training and development content to learning paths or courses within Litmos/Moodle for utilization in both customer and corporate learning spaces.
    • Maintain and update the NAVBLUE Academy course library, and annual review cycles to ensure the content remains up to date and meets current guidelines/standards.
    • Collaborate with NAVBLUE Academy colleagues to support the continuous improvement of our LMSs.
    • Work closely with the Instructional Designers and other stakeholders to identify successes and areas of improvement to drive engagement in NAVBLUE Academy.
    • Meet with customers virtually or face-to-face to help solve complex issues.
  • Complete other projects or assignments, as required.

Qualified Experience/Skills/Training:

  • Proven influencing skills and ability to work at all levels within an organization.
  • Demonstrable experience in research and information-gathering skills.
  • A complete understanding of instructional design and LMS administration procedures and act as an escalation point for coaching Instructional Designers on these.
  • Advanced level of knowledge on eLearning authoring tools, processes, and practices.
  • Must be able to work effectively both within a local or remote team environment as well as independently with little supervision and handle multiple projects concurrently within any environment.
  • Detail-oriented individual who can learn new concepts and apply them quickly.
  • Effective interpersonal skills; adaptable to all levels of the organization.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively adapt to change.
  • Must be proactive, self-motivated, and flexible to meet deadlines and see projects through from beginning to end whilst managing time, cost, quality, and scope of a project.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and ADDIE/SAM/agile design methodology.

Education:

  • Successful completion of College or University degree in Education, Business, or Communications - related discipline, or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Certificate in Adult Education, or willing to obtain.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in information/instructional design or technical writing/communications in a software development organization, in positions of progressive responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, design, delivery, and evaluation of training courses (ADDIE/SAM), and Agile methodology.
  • A strong understanding of learning environments and the systems and processes used to ensure a positive learner experience.
  • Experience with building online courses and resources, course registration, and data analysis; able to quickly learn new technologies.
  • Experience in the practical application of adult education methods and strategy.
  • Experience in assessment and measurement of change impacts and training needs specific to diverse learner populations.
  • Experience in the aviation or software/tech industry is a definite asset.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities & Competencies:

  • Fluent and professional in English, business writing, and technical editing, with proven documentation skills in terms of development, content management, maintenance, versioning, etc.
  • Strong time management, and project management skills with the ability to effectively adapt to change.
  • Organizational skills to undertake multiple assignments and identify priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate, influence, negotiate, resolve conflicts, coach, and work in a team-based environment.
  • Comfortable with customer interactions and escalations in both virtual and face-to-face scenarios.
  • Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with accuracy, composure, and adaptability.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying needs and developing solutions.
  • Comfortable in a matrix organization and working with a variety of cross-functional teams.
  • Strong influencing skills and ability to work with all levels within an organization.
  • Must be able to work effectively both within a team environment as well as independently with little supervision and handle multiple projects concurrently within both environments.

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • Advanced proficiency with graphics and eLearning software with a specific focus on NAVBLUE Academy adopted tools, including:
    • tts Producer
    • Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e. Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Audition)
    • TechSmith Camtasia and Snagit
    • Articulate 360 (Rise, Review, and Storyline)
    • Vyond
  • Strong experience with Google Workspace applications.
  • Extensive experience administering one or more Learning Management Systems (LMS).
