The Opportunity

General Bank of Canada is looking for a permanent, full-time Senior Infrastructure Specialist to join the organization as a key contributor with the Bank’s Data, Technology & Innovation team. This is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to contribute to building the bank of the future with considerable potential for learning, growth, and advancement.


Reporting to the Director of IT and Cloud Engineering, the Senior Infrastructure Specialist will play a critical role in maintaining and managing our on-premises infrastructure while supporting our progression towards a cloud-first strategy. This position requires extensive experience in all stages of migration—design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance—ensuring a seamless transition and robust infrastructure. The ideal candidate is hands-on, enthusiastic about engaging in work at all phases, and brings a creative, innovative mindset to problem-solving.


Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Management: Monitor and manage the day-to-day operations of the IT infrastructure. Ensure the security, reliability, and performance of all systems.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other Data and Technology Innovation (DTI) teams to ensure seamless integration and operations of systems and applications. Mentor others on infrastructure support and best practices.
  • Troubleshooting: Proactively identify and resolve infrastructure-related issues, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and network problems. Required to be in an on-call rotation.
  • Design, Architecture and Implementation: Design and implement robust IT infrastructure, both on-premises and cloud-based solutions that support the company’s business operations.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for IT infrastructure, including system configurations, topologies, and procedures.
  • Technology Trends: Stay current with the latest technologies and industry trends to ensure the company’s infrastructure remains competitive.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field is required.
  • 7+ years of end-to-end IT infrastructure and security support experience is required.
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge of server hardware, virtualization, operating systems (Linux, Windows), networking, storage, and high availability clusters is required.
  • Previous professional experience with cloud platforms (Azure, Google Cloud), including on-premise to cloud server migration is required.
  • Strong IT security expertise paired with innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communicator and team player.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, MCSE, Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator/Solutions Architect is preferred.
  • Experience in the Financial sector and with tools like GIT, Jira, Agile SDLC, and CI/CD as well as scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automating provisioning, deployment, and scaling is preferred.

Workplace Model: Hybrid

Location: Western Canada, preference will be given to candidates located in Calgary, AB or Edmonton, AB.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $102,326.00 to $153,489.00
