Job description

Esri Canada has an exceptional professional opportunity for a Senior GIS Consultant based in western Canada. As a Senior GIS Consultant, you will leverage your experience in GIS, business analysis, and consulting to implement cutting-edge solutions based on Esri technology. Reporting to the Prairies Professional Services Manager, you will contribute to the ongoing business operations by providing effective delivery of assigned consulting projects and other client services.

Senior GIS Consultant responsibilities include:

  • Work in a collaborative team environment to analyze customer needs and develop solutions
  • Provide expertise with requirements gathering, estimation, design, development, and implementation of Enterprise GIS solutions
  • Research, review, and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing processes and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes
  • Prototype new procedures for the purpose of enhancing business processes, operations, and information process flow
  • Actively participate (and/or lead) in the preparation of proposals (e.g., RFPs, RFIs and RFQs)
  • Prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives for improving processes in production systems across an organization.
  • Develop effort estimations and assist the Project Manager in project schedules
  • Act as a technical mentor and advisor to other resources

Specific skill requirements:

  • University degree or college diploma in the field of GIS, geomatics, geography, computer science, business administration, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of consulting experience in providing GIS solutions
  • 7+ years’ experience with Esri’s ArcGIS product suite, specifically ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Desktop/ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Experience in building sophisticated solutions using state-of-the art enterprise GIS technology
  • Proven experience with producing business and technical documents such as requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development, data models, proposals, business models, executive dashboards, gap analysis etc.
  • Demonstrated business acumen in establishing and maintaining effective consulting relationships with corporate customers
  • Experience in facilitating discussions and leading workshops
  • Knowledge in user needs analysis/requirements gathering, and designing techniques used to solve business problems.
  • Ability to motivate, coordinate, and lead a group of multidisciplinary teams effectively
  • Ability to negotiate and build consensus among stakeholders regarding technical matters
  • Ability to act as technical expert in pre-sales presentations, building and demonstration of solutions using Esri technology

Competencies in the following are essential:

  • Ability to understand and analyze customer needs, synthesize approaches and solutions, develop and present new ideas, and build solutions
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage own time and deliver project artifacts as per schedule.
  • Experience working on multiple projects at the same time

Skills considered as assets:

  • Understanding of relational database theory and data modeling
  • Understanding of complex geospatial systems
