Position at Gibraltar Mine

  1. Position: Senior Geologist, Mine Engineering
  2. Company: Gibraltar Mines Limited
  3. Location: McLeese Lake, BC
  4. Reporting Relationship: Chief Geologist, Mine Engineering
  5. Salary Range: $116,900 to $146,200

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensure all work performed by the team is compliant with Gibraltar health and safety policies.
  2. Supervise and provide guidance to Geologists, Geologists in training, and technical staff in day-to-day operations.
  3. Participate in the coaching, mentorship, and evaluation of staff.
  4. Prepare technical reports and documentation to ensure compliance with industry and operational requirements.
  5. Perform reconciliation analysis between resources, reserves, mine, and mill numbers.
  6. Control costs with respect to mine geology activities.
  7. Interact with other Mine Engineering team members and operations groups to maintain daily production rates and relay information on operating guidelines, compliance regulations, and policies.
  8. Recommend and contribute to the development of alternative procedures, methods, and policies to improve performance, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and organizational requirements.
  9. Manage and maintain database integrity and review data quality.
  10. Work closely with the Mine Engineering and Metallurgy groups on initiatives to better understand geological factors which impact production and recovery, and their distribution within the resource.

Mine Geology and Ore Control:

  1. Mentor Ore Control team and provide support for their daily activities.
  2. Supervise the collection and validation of geological data such as mapping, sampling, and core logging.

Modelling and reconciliation:

  1. Build and maintain Geological models.
  2. Update and maintain short range and stockpile models.
  3. Complete month-end reconciliation and reporting.
  4. Support resource improvement initiatives.

Project Geology:

  1. Planning, execution and reporting of infill drilling programs.
  2. Support Near Mine Exploration projects.
  3. Take an active role in Grade control improvement initiatives.
  4. Take an active role in mine to mill projects and initiatives.

Professional Experience / Qualifications

  1. Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  2. Geological experience mapping and logging of porphyry or similar deposit types would be an asset.
  3. Experience with 3D geological modelling and resource estimation is an asset.
  4. Experience supervising others is an asset.
  5. Strong interdepartmental communication skills.
  6. Able to change and re-prioritize tasks as new information is gathered.
  7. Strong ability to self-learn.
  8. Able to work independently or within group.
  9. 6+ years of related experience, Open pit experience is preferred.
  10. Experience with Microsoft Office, Mineplan, Datashed, Leapfrog Geo and Wenco would be an asset.

Education

Degree or similar education in Geology/Geological Engineering. Registered, or Eligible to register, as a with Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia.
