Senior Financial Analyst - Corporate Development
Location: Hybrid - Ontario
Empire life is looking to hire a Financial Analyst to join our Corporate Development Finance team!
The Financial Analyst is part of the Corporate Development team and will be responsible for supporting activities relating to commercial and consumer loans and block acquisitions. The incumbent works under the moderate supervision of the Vice-President, Finance - Corporate Development.

What you’ll be working on
- Loan related responsibilities, including:
- Make a full assessment of loan opportunities and, as appropriate, provide a recommendation based on the underwriting results.
- Actively manage pipeline in conjunction with relationship manager.
- Support collection of data required to underwrite advisor loans.
- Compile and analyse data to underwrite loans.
- Prepare detailed financial models and covenant reviews, including scenario analysis.
- Provide sound risk assessments and recommendations.
- Escalate and discuss questionable and new situations with a solution focused approach.
- Make recommendations regarding security and collateral to underwrite the loan.
- Prepare memos and term sheets for approval ensuring pre-review (and walk-through as required) with appropriate senior management.
- Liaise with various internal departments as required throughout the process including Corporate Treasury, Legal, Retail, Investments etc.
- Loan Management responsibilities, including:
- Provide feedback on underwriting policy and practice.
- Annual re-evaluation and analysis of borrower’s financials to ensure covenants continue to be met.
- Collaborate with and support Finance and/or Senior management through loan default process.
- Coordinate and prepare financial transactions for payments delivered and received.
- Document and maintain processes and procedures.
- System workflow management.
- Prepare regular reporting of key performance drivers and metrics.
- Monthly review of Credit, Debt and Requirement to Pay reports.
- Manage system generated approvals.
- Coordinate discharge of loans.
- Work with other team members to continuously improve and automate team processes and templates.
- Participate in projects and initiatives as assigned.
- Provide back-up to the team and support other business units as required.
- Support analysis of competitive environment, sales targets, revenue targets and budget.
- Develop and prepare management reports showing trends, key performance drivers, return on investment calculations and other metrics.
- Document internal controls, identify & close gaps.
- Run scenario analysis to assist the program leads with strategic planning and to develop long-term plans.
- Annual budget preparation and forecasts.
What we’re looking for you to have
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree with courses in business, accounting or finance.
- 5+ years’ work experience developing, executing and improving financial reporting and analysis in a corporate environment.
- Insurance or Financial Services experience is valuable.
- Bilingualism (French & English) would be an asset.
- Ability to work independently; prioritizing and balancing multiple tasks.
- Excellent analytical, logical, decision-making and problem solving skills.
- Well-developed organizational, mathematical and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to be decisive and show consistently good judgement.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to collaborate and build relationships.
- Strong working knowledge of spreadsheet and database software.
- Ability to synthesize and communicate financial results to senior audience.
- Ability to manage time to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to conduct research and analysis.
