CAREER OPPORTUNITY: SENIOR FINANCIAL ANALYST

ABOUT THE UPPER GRAND DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD (UGDSB)

The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4,000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35,000 students attending a variety of programs across 65 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin, Wellington, and the City of Guelph. The UGDSB covers the ancestral and treaty lands of the Mississauga’s of the Credit, the Six Nations of the Grand River, and Saugeen Ojibway Nation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Finance team in the capacity of Senior Financial Analyst.

Location: Guelph Board Office (500 Victoria Rd. N, Guelph, ON)

Hours of work/FTE: 1.0 FTE; 40 hours per week

Rate of Pay / Salary Range: $100,914 to $121,029 per year

Board Information: 12 months; permanent, full-time; Administrative Employees

Reporting to the Project Manager, ERP, the Senior Financial Analyst acts as the key Finance liaison to a variety of stakeholders in support of the Board’s ERP system. The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for the governance of Finance processes, process maps, documentation, standardization and support enhancing system configurations for the Board’s ERP optimization. This includes extracting, analyzing, reconciling and assisting in the interpretation of financial statistical data and working laterally across the organization to provide subject matter advice to internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Financial Processes and Documentation

  • Partners with Project Manager - ERP to identify specific changes to finance policy practice to ensure compliance as well as alignment to vision of the Board’s Multi-Year Plan and desired future state.
  • Manages the governance of Finance processes, process maps, documentation, and knowledgebase documentation during the transition to new systems (e.g., ERP, HRIS).
  • Maps out finance processes, identifies interdependencies, and understands where technology can be leveraged to refine or eliminate non-value-add process steps.
  • Develops, documents, and maintains financial process workflows for efficiency and compliance and recommends efficiency improvements and initiates revisions to existing procedures and processes.
  • Extracts data from existing Board systems to perform detailed audits to ensure integrity of data.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Enters data into the financial systems of the Board based on source documents and spreadsheet analysis.
  • Processes various financial transactions including journal entries.
  • Updates financial systems in order to provide accurate and timely information for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Prepares reports and financial information as required or requested by Finance Department, Department Managers, School Administration and regulatory agencies based on analysis of systems data.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports and statements for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Prepares and reviews a variety of financial analysis and reports in preparation of year-end file maintenance and reporting and annual audits.
  • Analyzes financial information to ensure accuracy of information contained in the Board’s financial systems and the reporting provided to management.

ERP Project Support

  • Partners with Project Manager – ERP and other stakeholders to provide clarity and documentation on finance processes to ensure the successful transition to other systems with no disruption to service.
  • Alongside Project Manager – ERP, leads the Finance component of the Boards’ ERP implementation; acts as primary Finance liaison and first point of contact between Payroll, Human Resources and Finance related to questions related to ERP implementation.
  • Collaborates with leaders to identify changes, prioritize optimization opportunities, and coordinate sequencing across Finance; define the level of impact, associated risks, and coordination of timing and communication plans.
  • Partners with Leadership and other departments to identify and proactively implement solutions to key pain points.
  • Confers with ERP Project Team to evaluate requirements, discuss solutions and develop plan of approach.
  • Performs testing on new ERP system and participates in structured walk-throughs and other activities to review the ERP system.
  • Facilitates training and support to end users to ensure integrity of process and data.
  • Following implementation, vets and analyzes all new information against existing data within the system and continues to design and configure dashboards, reports, and workflows to improve usability of the ERP.

Other Duties

  • Promptly responds to requests for information internally and from other Departments.
  • Communicates Finance policies and practices for Department Managers and School administration when requested.
  • Provides budget assistance to other departments when required and reviews submissions to evaluate accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to grow and develop as a Finance professional.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related discipline required.
  • Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of accounting, budgeting, and auditing experience.
  • Recognized Professional Accounting Designation (CPA).
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Prior experience with various ERP platforms.
  • Experience meeting deadlines, streamlining work processes, conflict resolution and working cooperatively.
  • Advanced knowledge of analysis tools such as advanced functions of Power BI.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial systems and report preparations.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, planning, organizational and project management skills.
  • Good mathematical, statistical, and research skills with a high level of proficiency using software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio), HRIS, and other database systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of processes to import/export electronic data.
  • Ability to learn innovative technologies (ERP, specialized software), often using a self-teaching approach.
  • Ability to analyze business processes and systems, identify inefficiencies and/or required functional enhancements, and document business processes and procedures.
  • Ability to translate business needs into clear requirements that will enable the design of flexible solutions to enable business strategies.
  • Ability to understand and effectively articulate functionality of technology solutions to business and IT teams at various levels.
  • Ability to communicate financial information to non-financial internal clients.
