Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to manage and oversee the financial operations of Highpoint Developments and its affiliates. This role requires expertise in tax filing, corporate internal audits, investment accounting, and stock knowledge. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for preparing and filing tax returns, overseeing corporate audits, managing investment portfolios, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Filing & Compliance

  • Prepare, review, and file corporate tax returns in compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Oversee tax provisions, ensuring accurate reporting of tax liabilities and identifying potential tax-saving opportunities.
  • Manage tax reporting and ensure compliance with changing tax laws, including preparing and reviewing quarterly and annual tax provisions.
  • Work closely with external tax consultants and auditors to ensure optimal tax strategies and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records for tax filings, ensuring all deadlines are met and documentation is properly stored.

Corporate Internal Audit & Controls

  • Oversee corporate internal audits, ensuring adherence to internal control procedures and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the internal audit team to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry standards.
  • Monitor financial operations to safeguard assets and identify any risks, implementing strategies to mitigate those risks.
  • Ensure proper documentation and procedures are followed for all financial reporting, including regular audit preparation.

Investment & Stock Knowledge

  • Oversee the management and accounting of investment portfolios, ensuring accurate recording of stock holdings, valuations, and gains or losses.
  • Monitor the performance of investments and provide insights and recommendations based on investment performance and market trends.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of financial markets, stock performance, and investment strategies.
  • Prepare investment reports for leadership, providing accurate summaries of portfolio performance, risk exposure, and returns.
  • Collaborate with external financial advisors to ensure effective management of investments and to make strategic recommendations.

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, ensuring they reflect the organization’s financial performance.
  • Conduct financial analysis and variance analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, and business decision-making.
  • Assist in cash flow management to ensure liquidity and support the company’s operational and growth strategies.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial reports to the executive leadership team and stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation (or in progress) preferred.
  • Strong expertise in tax accounting, tax filings, and compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Experience with corporate internal audits and the implementation of internal controls.
  • Advanced knowledge of investment accounting, stock markets, and portfolio management.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate development or a related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards (GAAP/IFRS), and tax regulations.
  • Proficient in financial management software such as QuickBooks and ERP systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic organization and contribute to its overall financial success.
