Job DescriptionDe Beers Group has an opportunity for an experienced Senior Financial Manager to join the Finance Team at the Calgary Support Centre on a full-time basis for 24 months. This position is based at the De Beers Calgary Support Centre located at the Calgary International Airport. The schedule is currently a hybrid style consisting of two days in the office and three days at home.
De Beers Group faces increasing change in the upstream environment of its assets in Canada and South Africa. To address these changes it is critical for the upstream operations to prioritise major projects, drive efficiencies, streamline for the long term and creation of sustainable value for all our stakeholders as part of the Origins Strategy. This also entails continuous emphasis on achieving zero harm, a reduced and challenging operational footprint, execution of mine closure and rehabilitation activities, management of stakeholder expectations and ongoing macroeconomic challenges. This while the future of mining is being reshaped by external factors together with continuous innovation in technology, automation and digitalization. These trends underpin the importance of major capital investments that will differentiate the future of De Beers Group, including the Venetia underground mine ramp up in S.A. and the extension of Gahcho Kue's life of mine in Canada.
The Senior Finance Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining a standardised and optimised systems approach to the cyclical and regular operational and consolidated operational budgets, commercial and investment decisions, financial reporting and tax submissions for the Managed Operations business and Gahcho Kue Mine Joint Venture partners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- The Senior Finance Manager role is responsible for providing Canada with finance leadership, producing high quality business performance and cyclical reports, performing analytics and predictive trend analysis as a core commercial decision support mechanism to optimise business plan delivery for the Managed Operations.
- In conjunction with the Managed Operations CFO, plan, prepare, issue and maintain the annual operational budget, capital, financial and audit schedule for all operations and functions within the DBCI business.
- In collaboration with finance teams, elicit input and lead the development of standardised and optimised financial management and reporting systems and processes.
- Responsible for the financial control and governance environment, including the responsibility for the external audit relationship (both DBCI and JV partner auditors).
- Accountable for the consolidation of monthly, cyclical and annual Financial Statements for DBCI ensuring adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards, Company standards and legislative/regulatory requirements for each jurisdiction of operation.
- Prepare and review cyclical and consolidated balance sheet reconciliation for DBCI ensuring appropriate level of analysis submitted with the associated recommendations for executive attention/intervention.
- Accountable for the maintenance, upgrades and enhancements of all financial systems (AFC, HSF, SAP, OneStream) and assume a leading role coordinating the design and implementation of new systems and associated interfaces.
- Lead, consolidate and ensure the timely submission of approved corporate direct and indirect tax returns for all Managed Operations in Canada liaising with Group Tax to ensure completeness and accuracy of reporting.
- In conjunction with the relevant operational functions and Group insurance teams, develop and maintain the DBCI insurance portfolio ensuring all claims and administration adequately and effectively covered.
- Assist Managed Operations' CFO, with budget formulation and funding requirements as delegated from time to time.
- Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency within the De Beers Canada team, systems and processes.
- Lead and drive working capital improvement project for De Beers Canada.
- Manage the relationship and SLA with Anglo GSS for shared service functions carried out by Anglo GSS.
- Lead, consolidate and present the De Beers Canada long range investment and commercial options evaluation to the De Beers and Anglo Investment review, where required, and assurance teams in compliance with the Investment Development standards.
- Responsible for Closure Project financial management for Snap Lake, Victor Mine in execution including annual review of technical studies.
- Responsible for preparation and communication of Gahcho Kue mine Joint Venture financial planning and analysis including annual update to long range business value, profitability, cash flows and associated risks to the management committee.
- Assist Managed Operations' CFO, with Gahcho Kue Joint Venture relationships management by coordination and communicating monthly and quarterly performance reporting of Gahcho Kue to MPVD.
- Accountable for commercial management support to DBCi Managed Operations re-Gahcho Kue, Exploration, Chidliak, Closure projects and the Calgary Support Center.
- In collaboration with the Mine General Manager and Head of Projects in Canada, develop and support business improvement plans while providing commercial support in execution to meet business expectations.
Qualifications- Appropriate Finance or Commercial qualification with a Professional Accounting designation (CPA, CGMA) being required.
- Proven track record of practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity.
- Demonstrated systems thinking to construct models that help to understand the design of the system. It involves discerning a trend from a flow of significant, real events to design and construct a system in a single field to cope with it. The system may need to be altered as the trend changes. Agile in thinking and comfortable working with ambiguity.
