Côté Gold is being developed in partnership with the Mattagami First Nation, Flying Post First Nation and Métis Nation of Ontario, Region 3.

The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1: Site Operations

  • Lead the implementation of Field Monitoring Programs (Surface/Groundwater, Hydrology, Air Quality monitoring)
  • Coordinate and assist various consultants visiting the site to conduct monitoring programs to support compliance or permitting activities
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams to facilitate seamless project execution.
  • Develop project scopes in support of tender packages, including cost estimates.
  • Monitor costs throughout the project lifecycle and provide updated schedules and cost forecast.
  • Identify project delivery risks and develop mitigation strategies to safeguard the assigned project outcomes.
  • Coordinate requests from third party contractors and consultants.
  • Perform data review and analysis in support of environmental effects monitoring
  • Monitor activities at the mine site that are potentially harmful to the environment and suggest ways to improve them
  • Support ongoing environmental permitting initiatives at the Côté Gold Site, including the issuance of internal site environmental permits.
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental field reports/memos, compliance reports, management plans and online reporting functions as they pertain to regulatory and permit requirements
  • Manage monitoring data including data entry, database management and quality assurance
  • Maintain field environmental compliance files and assist in effluent treatment operations on-site
  • Attend meetings and conduct field inspections with company personnel, consultants, and regulatory agency representatives, as necessary.
  • Support site operations by planning and delivering environmental training for staff and contractors
  • Other duties as required and directed by the Environmental Department from time to time

Area 2: Environmental Legislation

  • Contributing to continuous improvement of environment-related processes and procedures
  • Staying abreast of environmental legislation
  • Assisting in the implementation of procedures and scopes of work to satisfy provincial and federal government regulatory requirements at the operational level
  • Executes procedures, policies, and proactive measures to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for the operation.

Safety & Sustainability Expectation

  • Maintain a collaborative concern for the health and safety of oneself, colleagues, and local communities.
  • Adhere to wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) consistently while in production environments.
  • Remain vigilant and promptly address and report any unsafe conditions observed.
  • Adhere to operational protocols and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Verify that workspaces adhere to both Côté Gold’s Health and Safety policies and the relevant Occupational Health and Safety Acts.
  • Take necessary actions to safeguard the well-being of others in the workplace.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership by consistently exemplifying best practices.

Qualifications & Skill Requirements

  • Technical diploma in Environmental Studies.
  • Degree in Environmental Studies or Environmental Engineering is considered an asset.
  • 1+ years of environmental and mining related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience operating various types of recreational vehicles and field instrumentation (ATV, Snow machine, boat/motor, flow/water quality meter, GPS, laptops, data loggers)
  • Working knowledge of Government Acts and Regulations.
  • Good understanding of the environmental impact of mining and milling processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, with both internal and external contacts using Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Excellent orienteering and organizational skills, detail-oriented
  • Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment and be pleasant and courteous in interpersonal interactions
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Perform basic maintenance and calibration of sampling instruments and other environmental equipment
  • Good IT knowledge, ArcGIS experience would be an advantage
