Our highly respected and successful Environmental Permitting and Management team has an ever-growing portfolio of work, built on technical excellence and exceptional service to our clients, with a particular need for support on our transportation, infrastructure, and power projects.

We are looking for a Senior Environmental Planner, who can lead our Transportation projects in Ontario, as well as a variety of wider infrastructure, environmental assessments and planning projects. The ideal candidate must have strong work experience with environmental standards and regulations in relation to environmental assessments and permitting in the Transportation sectors. We are looking for highly qualified senior level candidates with at least 20 years’ experience.

Our work includes delivering keystone projects throughout their lifecycle: from early assessment of constraints to strategic development of regulatory approvals processes, to compliance management through construction and operations. Our team works collaboratively within projects to gain social acceptance and manage our clients' commitments to the environment and sustainable development.

AtkinsRéalis, as part of the Cadence consortium has been awarded the detailed design of ALTO, the High Frequency Rail project that will connect Toronto to Québec, which will become the largest infrastructure project in the history of Canada. Your role within the team:

• Be a trusted technical leader who provides guidance for the implementation and management of all aspects of environmental permitting and environmental assessments for municipal, provincial and federal processes.
• Act as senior project manager or project director responsible for the development and management of scope, budget, schedule, and quality of complex projects.
• Oversee the development and implementation of consultation and engagement programs.
• Independently coordinate and manage external subcontractors.
• Effectively delegate tasks and activities to other senior, intermediate and junior staff and providing technical and supervisory guidance on assigned tasks.
• Lead or contribute, as necessary, in the development of proposals, qualification documents and other business development related activities.
• Interact with clients and regulatory agencies and ministries to ensure that projects are successfully delivered within timelines.
• Lead growth of environmental planning / environmental assessment market share in Transportation markets.
• Be a company ambassador, leveraging existing industry / client relationships and establish and foster new client relationships.

The ideal candidate:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related degree.
• A minimum of 20 years of related experience in managing/coordinating environmental assessments and securing construction permits/approvals, particularly within the transportation sector.
• Expert-level understanding of regulatory frameworks, including for transportation projects.
• Demonstrable experience as an environmental planner for Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) projects.
• Superb written and verbal communication skills.
• Expert knowledge of and experience with environmental project management fundamentals including cost control, scope management, and scheduling.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments at one time.
• Experience working in a fast-paced engineering or environmental consulting environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety protocols and practices.
• Full membership in a professional body (e.g. RPP, PMP, EP, P. Eng.).
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
