JOB SUMMARY:
The Generation Civil Engineering Services team with Engineering and Construction is seeking two (2) positions: Senior Engineer, Civil Engineering (Nuclear) and Engineer Civil Engineering (Nuclear).
These roles involve support for the development of preliminary, conceptual, and detailed design related to civil and structural for capital projects of existing and new power plants, including Small Modular Reactor (SMR).
As members of the team, these roles will be leading structural design and analysis, foundation conceptualization, and subsurface site evaluation as subject matter experts, including preparing contract documents, managing contracts, helping with project plans, costs, and schedules, and providing technical assistance during construction.
Reporting to the Manager, Civil Engineering & Technical Services, these positions will be responsible for:
- Preparing design documents, requirements, reports, technical specifications, calculations, and contract documents.
- Providing subject matter expert review and acceptance of analysis, design, and specification prepared by consultants.
- Leading the oversight of the structural aspects of the standard design for the technology.
- Leading the subsurface site characterization and evaluation.
- Providing the necessary Civil/Structural Engineering Expert advice and recommendations to the Engineering Manager for decision and guidance.
- Contributing to the development of conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of structures.
- Working with design teams in a multidisciplinary environment on projects collaboratively to produce design deliverables with the appropriate level of detail.
- Collaborating with internal management and operation staff, and external consultants to ensure high quality, constructible design.
- Managing contracts including scope, cost, schedule, and risk.
- Helping Project Manager with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, scope development, and resource allocation.
- Providing technical assistance during construction as a lead design engineer and contract administrator.
- Performing technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of action.
- Providing leadership direction to staff, consultants, and other external technical agencies as required.
- Evaluating existing civil, structural, and architectural design.
- Providing direction to engineers and engineer-in-training, as required (Senior Engineer, Civil Engineering (Nuclear) only).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineering Designation P.Eng.
- Membership in or eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS).
- A minimum of six (6) years post P. Eng. relevant experience in the areas of heavy industrial infrastructures, foundation and building design using steel, reinforced concrete, and masonry (Senior Engineer, Civil Engineering (Nuclear) only).
- Experienced in a combination of the following engineering tasks: planning facilities, providing technical specifications, managing contracts, bid evaluations, review and acceptance of technical deliverables, and monitoring consultants and contractor performance.
- Previous experience working in the nuclear industry would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated competency in structural design codes and engineering/industry standards.
- Work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and interact with staff at various levels of the organization.
- Use excellent oral and written English communication skills.
- Exercise sound judgment in technical matters, to routinely solve technical problems and to make independent decisions and provide engineering oversight to various sizes of jobs.
- Ability to provide competent leadership, including coaching and development of technical staff including engineers, engineers-in-training, and other resources as required.
- Results-oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork.
- Be highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate efficient organization, planning, time management, detail orientation, and prioritization.
A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
