Career Opportunity
We are currently hiring a Senior Employee Relations Consultant with a thorough understanding of employee and labour relations practices and principles, including the collective bargaining process.

What you will do
Reporting to the Manager of Employee Relations, you will be responsible for supporting the preparation and execution of collective bargaining, providing employee relations guidance on capital projects, and managing complex cases and projects.

  1. Identify the needs for labour relations expertise across high-level initiatives and hold a pro-active role in the organization.
  2. Provide ongoing strategic and confidential advice, support, and information to management on complex and high-level employee and labour relations matters.
  3. Act as lead labour relations negotiator for various projects of corporate importance.
  4. Oversee and resolve complex grievances, mediations, and arbitrations.
  5. Prepare documentation for signature as required by executive management.
  6. Support all steps leading up to negotiations including researching economic and bargaining trends.
  7. Participate in negotiations as a collective bargaining team member.

You will also be responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity, ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code.

What Qualifications Do You Bring
Completion of a post-secondary education in Industrial Relations or related field, combined with 5-7 years of directly related work experience in a union environment. Key qualifications include:

  1. Thorough understanding of employee and labour relations practices and principles.
  2. Familiarity with and ability to interpret Collective Agreements.
  3. Strong negotiation, mediation, and conciliation skills.
  4. Extensive experience consulting in an industrialized unionized environment.
  5. Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
