Senior Electrical Technician, Design Support

The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Designer(s) to join the historical Centre Block Rehabilitation Project. This project is in Ottawa; however, this role can also be based out of Toronto. You are a key member of a project team, responsible for developing the design of electrical building systems through to completion of the design packages, on one of Canada's most iconic buildings.

What you can expect to do here:

1. Design leading-edge engineering solutions for the various electrical and electronic building systems, including low voltage power distribution (including emergency power and UPS), lightning protection and grounding, fire detection and voice alarm, passive telecommunications and security systems infrastructure, lighting and lighting controls systems, and external underground services infrastructure.
2. Contribute to the development of project specific technical specifications.
3. Work in conjunction with different stakeholder groups to develop and articulate the merits of the selected solutions for the various electrical systems.
4. Complete field surveys, write technical reports, collaborate with our many counterparts in all our different disciplines at WSP and provide expertise and client deliverables on projects.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

1. Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) in Ontario.
2. Minimum of 12 years electrical engineering and design experience on major complex building projects – experience with large scale, heritage designated projects a distinct advantage.
3. Experience working in different delivery models – i.e. CM, Design Build, P3 - is required.
4. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with a strong desire and ability to collaborate and problem solve in an integrated team environment.
5. Detailed working knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, National Building Code of Canada and the Ontario Building Code.
6. Detailed understanding of LEED v4.0 and ASHRAE standards.
7. Detailed working knowledge of CAN/ULC Standards for Life Safety Systems.
8. Advanced understanding of quality standards relative to electrical design and planning, engineering fundamentals and principles.
9. A working level understanding of REVIT MEP 3D is considered a definite advantage.
10. Proficient in MS Office Applications.
11. Must possess, or be eligible for PSPC Reliability clearance.
