Senior Electrical Engineer (Infrastructure, P.Eng. with EGBC)

Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer, Infrastructure and Transportation will support the Infrastructure team in the development of client-driven infrastructure and transportation design approaches and solutions. This individual will use extensive knowledge of specialized design concepts and software tools to provide direction to the team, as they produce designs and drawings as per industry standards, client requirements and applicable codes and regulations. The Senior Electrical Engineer will assist the Manager of Infrastructure and Transportation in mentoring the team members, providing technical support and guidance. Efficient delivery of project deliverables, effective quality control, clear communication of expectations to stakeholders and upward reporting are critical tasks that must be performed continually. We have an opportunity in our Burnaby, BC office.

Responsibilities:

Technical

  1. Provide technical support on the electrical designs and calculations in accordance with the relevant Canadian and Industrial standards and project specifications.
  2. Direct the preparation of and/or prepare detailed designs for electrical systems using AutoCAD.
  3. Participate in technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed analysis, design or computational requirements.
  4. Participate in the preparation and review of specifications, technical bid evaluations, procurement documentation and construction cost estimates.
  5. Direct and generate additional engineering products that may include reports, technical memoranda, illumination studies, specifications, and other supporting documents.
  6. Assist other engineers, technologists, designers and drafters in carrying out technical tasks.
  7. Review and perform quality control checks for drawings, calculations and deliverables.
  8. Perform Professional of Record functions.
  9. Perform project management functions on projects of varying sizes including budgets, schedules, design reports and peer reviews.
  10. Liaise with clients and other stakeholders on project statuses, issues, concerns and opportunities.
  11. Keep abreast of best practices and the latest technology in the Infrastructure and Transportation industry.

Business Development

  1. Support the Business Development Team (BD) to effectively manage and expand existing customer relationships.
  2. Support the BD team to grow and develop a new customer base.
  3. Support BD activities including but not limited to proposal preparation, attendance at conferences, seminars, etc. for the purpose of networking and promoting the company.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  2. Professional Engineer designation with EGBC (Electrical).
  3. Eight (8) or more years of relevant progressive experience with small and medium sized transportation projects.
  4. Good understanding of electrical systems design and construction standards including the Canadian Electrical Code, NEMA, TAC, IES, British Columbia Ministry of Transportation.
  5. Experience with Alberta Transportation standards is an asset.
  6. Experience with the operation and design of street lighting, traffic control systems, ITS, and communication systems.
  7. Strong understanding of transportation electrical systems and engineering fundamentals.
  8. Working knowledge of drafting tools including AutoCAD, analysis tools such as AGi32, and Microsoft Office suite of products.
  9. Demonstrated experience mentoring a team of professionals with the ability to lead a team of professionals, technical staff, and administrative personnel to deliver projects and services.
  10. Demonstrated experience managing projects including scope, deliverable, budget, schedule and record keeping requirements.
  11. Excellent English language communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to create and conduct presentations and prepare and review technical proposals and other materials, in support of business development activities.
  12. Strong sense of ethics and integrity.
  13. High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment.
  14. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a range of personalities to establish effective working relationships with the required stakeholders.
