Senior Electrical Engineer - Facilities Engineering and Design, Oil and Gas (Calgary, Alberta)

The Senior Electrical Engineer will participate in the design of component parts and individual units among different aspects of industry projects, focused on servicing oil and gas projects from inception to completion. The role involves exercising cost control, reviewing and monitoring designs for conformance with control estimates and project specifications, and applying advanced engineering techniques and analyses to complex engineering tasks.

This position requires flexibility in meeting multiple job demands and assisting other team members on-site as needed. The ideal candidate will have relevant and progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the oil and gas industry, combined with good interpersonal, teamwork, organizational, and communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Most importantly, they should be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team including process, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and piping engineers and designers, and handle operational pressures calmly.

Permanent Full-Time Position
Compensation: Commensurate to Candidate Experience

Reporting to the discipline lead, the senior engineer will participate in the design of different aspects of oil and gas projects from inception to completion. Our hiring client company provides solutions and applications to new asset developments and brownfield optimization projects across several industrial markets, including biofuels and produced water treatment to natural gas and petrochemical processing.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• 7+ years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the oil and gas industry; (Preferred: 10+ years of experience as a fully qualified engineer, with 5+ years of experience in thermal heavy oil)
• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in engineering or applied science
• Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
• Strong working knowledge and understanding of applicable codes and industry standards
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Self-motivated with efficient time management and organizational skills
• Registration as P.Eng. with APEGA
• Strong working knowledge of oil facility-related drawing packages and electrical layouts
• Independently prepare or review ETAP or SKM models
• Knowledge of CEC and international codes, standards, and approved codes of practice
• Prepare and review demand load calculations, voltage drop calculations, cable tray fill calculations, EHT calculations, etc.
• Experience with requisitioning electrical equipment
• Prepare EIC engineering work packages

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participate in the design of component parts and individual units
• Exercise cost control and review designs for conformance with project specifications
• Supervise activities involved in the electrical design of complex process units
• Provide comprehensive engineering and design services, establishing design criteria and preparing specifications
• Perform detailed calculations
• Interface with client representatives
• Review and maintain project schedules, tracking engineering tasks and deliverables
• Review vendor or subcontractor quotations for technical adequacy
• Assign and outline work for others, reviewing for technical accuracy
• Provide technical guidance to junior staff
• Prepare engineering work packages and provide construction support
• Meet safety requirements for site visits
• Perform other duties as assigned
